St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church

St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church To follow the Lord Jesus in lives of humble service. A discipleship center in the Great Tradition of Christianity.

To invite everyone we meet to be baptized into the death and resurrection of God's Son Jesus that they may share in the eternal life and love of the Triune God. We view Lutheranism as a confessing movement within the whole Church. We are both evangelical and catholic, confessing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and standing within the creedal faith passed down from generation to generation.

We welcome you in Jesus name to worship with us at our 11:00 AM Sunday Eucharist as we celebrate the Third Sunday after Pentecost. Pastor Samuel David Zumwalt preaches “Holy Worship: Going to the Lost” (Matthew 9:35-10:8). The color of the day is green, which signifies growing in the grace and knowledge of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Wear green to worship this weekend! We recognize graduates at 11 a.m. Reception at 9:45.

From the console of our 47 rank Austin pipe organ with trompette-en-chamade, Bill Glisson leads the singing of joyous hymns at traditional services:

“Praise to the Lord the Almighty” (Entrance);

“God Loved the World So That He Gave” (Hymn of the Day);

“I Love to Tell the Story” (Recessional);

Our Sunday distribution hymns are:

“Precious Lord, Take My Hand”;

“I Love Your Kingdom, Lord”;

Special music for the weekend: Bill Glisson (organ) plays “St. Crispin 1,2,3” (Rotermund) at the prelude. Teresa Hall & Joseph Huppmann sing “O Lord Most Holy” (Franck) at the offering. Bill Glisson plays “Praise to the Lord the Almighty” (Manz) at the postlude.

Harry (Frank) Franklin Puckett II, 57, who was born June 6, 1968 in Salisbury passed from his earthly life Saturday, June 6, 2026. He was the son of Harry and Tanya Puckett.

In addition to his parents Frank is survived by his wife, Susan Henley Puckett; daughter, Olivia Puckett (Tony Garrett); stepson, Zack Woodward: granddaughter, Ozzy Garrett; sister, Melissa Miller (Dale); niece, Cassidy Miller; nephew, Brice Miller (Cat); great nephews, Ryder and Lorenzo; and special friend, Susan Parker.

Frank was known for his humor, gift for gab and loved his family. He enjoyed fishing, and spending time on the waterway down in Sunset Harbor. He loved music and concerts.

Frank worked in sales most of his adult life. He most recently worked for sales at Fortiline. He was described as piloting a new sales program initiative, because he was loved by all of the contractors, and the company wanted him representing them in the field. He was loved by all his colleagues and will truly be missed. If you ever needed a good mood pick me up, just be around Frank for 5 minutes, and you were smiling and laughing in no time.

The memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2026 at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 612 College Road, Wilmington, NC 28403 with the Rev. Dr. Samuel Zumwalt conducting the service.

The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest you consider a memorial contribution to Pender County Humane Society, PO Box 626, Burgaw, NC 28425 in memory of Frank. Frank always had a soft spot in his heart for animals and was a strong supporter of animal care and rescue.
