Day 5: Living Fully for Jesus

Reading: Romans 12:1; Philippians 1:21

Devotional: The harder question is not whether you would die for Jesus. The harder question is whether you are truly living for Him. Stephen was an ordinary man who made himself fully available to an extraordinary God. His life was not his own, and he knew it. That surrender did not diminish his life. It defined it. The same invitation stands before you today. Not a call to perfection, but a call to open-handed surrender. Your schedule, your finances, your relationships, your gifts, your plans all of it laid before Jesus as a living sacrifice. He is not asking for a portion. He is worthy of all of it.

Reflection: Is the way you spend your time, money, and energy a true reflection of what you believe Jesus is worth?

Practical Application: Set aside thirty minutes this week to prayerfully review your calendar and your budget. Ask God to show you one specific adjustment in each area that would more honestly reflect that Jesus is worth it.

Day 4: The Gospel Goes Through Suffering

Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:16-18; Acts 8:1-4

Devotional: Stephen's death looked like a defeat. The enemy meant it to silence the church. Instead, it scattered believers like seeds across Judea and Samaria, and those scattered believers preached the word wherever they went. God's mission was not stopped by persecution. It was accelerated by it. This is the upside-down economy of the kingdom of God. What the world uses to destroy, God uses to multiply. Pain is not evidence that God has abandoned His plan. Often it is the very instrument through which His plan advances. Fix your eyes on what is unseen and eternal, because what is seen is only temporary.

Reflection: Where in your life has God brought something beautiful out of something painful?

Practical Application: Share your story with one person this week. Your testimony of how God worked through a difficult season may be the very seed someone else needs to hear.

Day 3: Trusting God With What You Cannot Control

Reading: Proverbs 3:5-6; Romans 8:28

Devotional: Stephen said, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." In his final breath, he released control. He did not know the full outcome. He could not see what God would do through his death. He simply trusted that Jesus was Lord over all of it, including the parts that were painful and uncertain. Trust is not the absence of fear. Trust is the decision to place what you cannot carry into hands that are strong enough to hold it. God does not ask you to understand everything. He asks you to trust the One who does. An open hand before God is one of the most powerful postures a believer can take.

Reflection: What are you gripping tightly right now that you need to place into the hands of Jesus?

Practical Application: Make a list of your top three current anxieties. Physically open your hands as you pray over each one, surrendering them to God and asking Him to replace your need for control with genuine trust.

Day 2: Loving Those Who Hurt You

Reading: Luke 6:27-36

Devotional: As stones struck his body, Stephen prayed for the men killing him. He did not curse them. He did not call for justice in that moment. He asked God to forgive them. This was not weakness. This was the fullness of the gospel lived out loud. Stephen had preached the gospel to his own heart so thoroughly that grace had overtaken bitterness. Forgiveness is not a feeling. It is an act of obedience made possible by understanding how much you yourself have been forgiven. You cannot manufacture this love on your own. It flows from a heart saturated in the grace of Jesus.

Reflection: Who is God asking you to love with the same grace He has shown you?

Practical Application: Write down the name of one person who has hurt you. Spend five minutes in honest prayer, telling God exactly how you feel, and then ask Him for the grace to forgive that person today.

When the world rose up against Stephen, Jesus stood up for him. That same advocate stands for you.

His death planted a seed in the heart of a man named Saul — who became the Apostle Paul. God did not waste a single moment of Stephen’s suffering. He never wastes yours either.

The question is not just whether you would die for Jesus. The harder question is whether you are willing to live for him — fully, openly, and without holding back. Is he worth it to you?

Day 1: Standing Firm When It Costs You

Reading: Acts 7:51-56

Devotional: Stephen stood before the most powerful religious authorities of his day and refused to shrink back. He was not bold because of personal strength or status. He was bold because he knew who he was in Christ. Identity rooted in Jesus produces courage that no opposition can silence. When we truly believe that Jesus is Lord, standing firm becomes less about bravery and more about conviction. The world will rise against you at times. Your reputation may suffer. Relationships may strain. But consider what Stephen saw in that moment: Jesus standing on his behalf. When you stand for Christ, Christ stands for you.

Reflection: Where is Jesus asking you to take a stand today, even if it costs you something?

Practical Application: Identify one area of your life where fear has kept you silent about your faith. Take one concrete step this week to speak or act with courage in that area.

Day 5: The Unstoppable Kingdom

Reading: Acts 1:8 -- Jesus tells his disciples they will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon them and that they will be his witnesses from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth.

Devotional: Jesus did not present the spread of his kingdom as a suggestion. He declared it as a certainty and extended an invitation to be part of it. The opposition Stephen faced did not slow the kingdom down it actually scattered the gospel further, as described later in Acts 8:4. God's purposes are not fragile. They are not threatened by resistance, suffering, or the limitations of the people he chooses to work through. Your responsibility is not to control the outcome. Your responsibility is to be full of Jesus, faithful to Jesus, and available to Jesus. He takes care of the rest. The kingdom is advancing. Get on the field.

Reflection: Where in your life are you trying to control outcomes that belong to God? What would it look like to release those outcomes and simply focus on being full, faithful, and available?

Practical Application: Write down one area of your life you have been gripping tightly. Pray over it specifically, placing it in God's hands, and commit to one act of obedience in that area this week regardless of what the outcome looks like.

Day 4: Faithful in the Ordinary

Reading: Luke 16:10 -- Jesus teaches that the person who is faithful in small matters can be trusted with larger ones, and the person who is dishonest in small matters will be dishonest in larger ones as well.

Devotional: Stephen's great moment of courage before the council did not begin in that council chamber. It began when he said yes to serving widows who were being overlooked. Faithfulness is rarely glamorous at the start. It is showing up, serving quietly, and trusting that God sees what no one else notices. We often wait for a grand assignment when God is already watching how we handle the one in front of us. Ordinary faithfulness in the hands of an extraordinary God builds the kingdom. You do not need a bigger platform. You need a deeper yes to what God has already placed before you.

Reflection: What small, unglamorous act of faithfulness is God asking of you right now that you have been overlooking or delaying?

Practical Application: Do one act of quiet, unrecognized service for someone in your life today and do it without mentioning it to anyone.
