Day 5: From Obligation to Overflow

Reading: Mark 5:18-20

Devotional:

When gratitude fills your heart, sharing Jesus shifts from obligation to overflow. The demon-possessed man wanted to follow Jesus everywhere, but Jesus gave him a different mission: "Go home and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you." Evangelism feels burdensome when we've forgotten the depth of our rescue or when salvation has become ordinary in our minds. But when we stay amazed by grace when we remember we were dead and are now alive, when we recognize we're not just escaping hell but receiving full adoption as God's children sharing becomes the most natural, loving thing we can do. You don't recommend restaurants out of obligation; you do it because the experience was so good you can't help but share. How much more should we overflow with the good news of Jesus? Ask God today to restore your wonder, to help you see one person through His eyes, and to give you courage to share your story. Let gratitude turn evangelism into joyful overflow.

Day 4: The Power of Personal Testimony

Reading: John 4:28-30, 39-42

Devotional:

The Samaritan woman had every reason to stay silent. She was an outcast, overwhelmed by shame, hiding from her community. Yet after encountering Jesus, she couldn't contain her story. She ran into the city and simply said, "Come see a man who told me everything I ever did." Notice she didn't have all the theological answers. She didn't clean up her past first. She just invited people to meet the One who changed her. And many believed because of her testimony. Your story is powerful not because you have it all figured out, but because Jesus transformed you. The demoniac, Paul, Matthew all encountered Jesus and immediately shared what happened. They didn't wait until they were "qualified." Biblical evangelism isn't about programs or presentations; it's broken people telling others about the One who made them whole. What's your story? How has Jesus changed you? That's your message. Share it today.

Day 3: God's Plan Includes You

Reading: Romans 10:13-17

Devotional:

God could save anyone without our help, yet He graciously invites us into His redemptive work. Notice the beautiful chain in Romans 10: calling requires belief, belief requires hearing, hearing requires a messenger, and messengers must be sent. Your obedience completes God's gospel plan. Someone's salvation may depend on your willingness to share. Think about your own story you know Jesus because someone was obedient. A parent prayed, a friend invited, a coworker shared, a pastor preached. The gospel came to you through someone else. Now it must go through you to reach others. You don't need a theology degree or a memorized presentation. You simply need to tell what Jesus has done in your life. God has positioned you in specific relationships for this very purpose. Your silence breaks the flow; your obedience completes it. Who is God sending you to today?

Day 2: The Reality of Eternity

Reading: Luke 16:19-31

Devotional:

Eternity changes everything. In this sobering account, Jesus reveals a man in torment desperately pleading for someone to warn his brothers. His urgent cry echoes across time: "Send somebody!" Heaven and hell are not metaphors or distant concepts they are eternal realities that give weight to every conversation, every relationship, every opportunity to share Christ. If we truly believed eternity was real, how could we remain silent about the One who rescues? The people you encounter daily coworkers, neighbors, family members face an eternal destiny. Your story of transformation might be exactly what God uses to redirect someone from death to life. Who in your life needs to hear that heaven is real, hell is real, and Jesus is the way? Don't wait. Eternity is too long to get this wrong.

5-Day Devotional: From Death to Life - Sharing the Story of Transformation

Day 1: Remembering Our Rescue

Reading: Ephesians 2:1-10

Devotional:

"But God." These two words mark the greatest turning point in human history and in your personal story. Before Christ, we were spiritually dead, wandering without hope, slaves to patterns of sin we couldn't break. We didn't need improvement; we needed resurrection. God didn't wait for us to clean ourselves up. In His rich mercy and great love, He pursued us while we were still dead in our sins. He made us alive, raised us up, and seated us with Christ in the heavenly places. This wasn't a narrow escape it was full adoption as sons and daughters of the King. Today, pause and remember: Where were you before Christ? How has God transformed you? Let gratitude for your rescue overflow into conversations with others who need this same hope.

Day 5: Love People, Not Your Dream

Reading: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8; Philippians 2:1-8

Devotional: Bonhoeffer's warning pierces through our romantic notions: "The person who loves their dream of community will destroy community. But the person who loves those around them will create community."

We love the idea of community the warmth, the belonging, people knowing our name. But we resist the price: vulnerability, accountability, staying in when it's uncomfortable. We want community that fits our preferences, serves our needs, and never challenges us. That's not biblical community; that's a social club.

True community requires laying down your expectations and loving actual people messy, complicated, imperfect people who won't always meet your needs. It means embracing those who don't look like you, think like you, or behave like you. It means choosing covenant over convenience.

The road to heaven was never meant to be walked alone. Who will you choose to walk with today?

Day 4: Sinners Welcome Here

Reading: Romans 3:23-24; James 5:16; 1 John 1:5-10

Devotional: Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote, "The pious fellowship permits no one to be a sinner. So everybody must conceal his sin from himself and from the fellowship." This is the death of authentic community when we pretend we have it all together.

Real breakthrough happens when we stop performing and start confessing. When we dare to be known as we actually are broken, struggling, needing grace we create space for others to do the same. If you're avoiding community because you don't have your life together, you've misunderstood what community is.

None of us have it figured out. We're all depraved humans living day to day by God's grace. The church isn't a museum for saints; it's a hospital for sinners. Confession brings healing. Vulnerability creates connection. Where are you hiding? Who needs to see the real you today?

Day 3: Generous Hearts, Open Hands

Reading: Acts 2:44-45; 2 Corinthians 8:1-7

Devotional: The early believers didn't just share their excess they sold possessions to meet each other's needs. This wasn't communism; it was something far more radical: covenant love. When they looked at each other, they saw family. Your crisis became my crisis. Your empty refrigerator became my emergency.

This kind of generosity flows from transformed hearts, not guilt or obligation. They gave with "glad and generous hearts" because they had found something in each other they couldn't find anywhere else. Real community doesn't just produce warm feelings; it produces sacrifice.

When someone in your church family has a need, how do you respond? Is their problem your problem? Biblical community means their burden becomes your burden. Open your hands today. Someone around you needs what you have and it might not be money.

05/19/2026

The early church didn’t grow because of perfect Sunday services. They grew because their community was so radically different—devoted to each other, sharing possessions, meeting needs, gathering in homes—that people couldn’t help but want in.

What if your greatest need isn’t a better plan, but a deeper connection? What if the breakthrough you’re waiting for requires you to stop hiding and step into authentic community? Your brothers and sisters are waiting to walk with you.
