Statement Regarding the Tragic San Diego Masjid Shooting
As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuh, dearest brothers and sisters,
Our hearts are deeply saddened and shaken by the horrific shooting that took place at the Islamic Center of San Diego, in which innocent lives were lost and families were devastated.
We ask Allāh ﷻ to shower His infinite mercy upon the deceased, grant complete shifāʾ to the injured, protect all houses of worship, and give strength, patience, and healing to the affected families and community.
We especially ask Allāh ﷻ to accept the martyrs, elevate their ranks among the righteous, envelop them in mercy and light, and grant their families beautiful patience and reunion in Jannat al-Firdaws.
At times like these, communities must remain spiritually strong, emotionally united, and practically vigilant.
Important Safety Precautions for Our Community:
• Be attentive and aware of unusual behavior around the masjid and parking areas.
• Ensure masjid entrances and exits are monitored during major programs and prayers.
• Encourage brothers to volunteer in organized safety and security efforts.
• Immediately report suspicious activity to local authorities and masjid leadership.
• Parents should remain attentive regarding children’s whereabouts during large gatherings.
• Communities should periodically review emergency procedures and safety protocols.
• Maintain calmness, wisdom, and unity. Fear should never remove us from the houses of Allāh, but wisdom and preparedness are from our dīn.
We ask Allāh ﷻ:
اللهم احفظ مساجدنا واهلنا واولادنا من كل سوء ومكروه، اللهم اجعل بلادنا امنا وامانا وسكينة
“O Allāh, protect our masājid, our families, and our children from all harm and evil. O Allāh, make our communities places of safety, peace, and tranquility.”
اللهم تقبل الشهداء وارفع درجاتهم واجعل قبورهم روضة من رياض الجنة، واربط على قلوب اهلهم بالصبر والسكينة
“O Allāh, accept the martyrs, elevate their ranks, make their graves gardens from the gardens of Paradise, and place patience and tranquility within the hearts of their families.”
May Allāh ﷻ preserve the Muslim community and all people of faith and protect humanity from hatred, violence, and oppression.
إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون
“Surely to Allāh we belong, and to Him we shall return.”
Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn.
