Compass Church We meet every Sunday at 4114 E. Oakland Ave. in Bloomington, IL at 10 AM, and we exist to live like Jesus lived, think like he thought, and do what he taught.

Compass is a church that is all about making God accessible to everyone. We know that God has direction for everyone's life and want to do everything we can to help point you the right way. At Compass, we have a passion to lead people into right relationship with God and with others, and we do everything we can to create environments where those connections can happen.

It’s pretty easy to like the idea of diversity. Real difference is harder. Acts 8 gives us a picture of what making room actually looks like. Philip doesn’t keep his distance from someone he doesn’t understand. He moves toward him, listens to him, takes his questions seriously, and points him toward Jesus.

Maybe being welcoming has less to do with what we say and more to do with who we’re willing to sit beside.

Following Jesus will eventually show us some things about ourselves we’d rather not see. That can be uncomfortable. But God showing you something that needs to change doesn’t mean he’s done with you. It might mean he’s doing something in you.

There’s a reason the Ethiopian eu**ch’s story in Acts 8 hits differently when you read Isaiah 56. Hundreds of years before Philip met him, Isaiah had already imagined a future where people like him would no longer live at the edge of God’s people.

Acts 8 isn’t God changing his mind about inclusion. It’s the promise of inclusion arriving.

Some things are easy to recognize as a problem. Others have been part of us so long that they just feel normal. That's one reason Jesus keeps taking us beneath our behavior. Anger, resentment, control, envy and all the other things we learn to justify can have more of a grip on us than we realize.

A better question than “What did I do wrong?” can sometimes be, “What has a hold on me?” And then we can actually bring the answer to Jesus.

Sometimes the hardest part of faith isn’t believing God exists. It’s wondering whether there’s actually room for someone like you.
The Ethiopian eu**ch in Acts 8 knew what it was like for something about him to determine how close he was allowed to get. Then he met Philip.

Deuteronomy said one thing. Isaiah promised something more. Acts 8 shows what happened next.

What happens when you want to belong but aren’t sure you’re allowed to? A lot of people carry the quiet assumption that there’s something about them that keeps them at a distance from God. Maybe you can get close, ask questions, even believe some of it, but you’re still not sure there’s actually room for you.

If you’ve ever wondered whether faith has room for someone with your story, questions, background, or differences, this is worth spending some time with. And if you know someone who has felt pushed to the outside of faith or church, send this their way.

Realizing something needs to change in you can feel awful. Especially when it's something you've been carrying for a long time. Peter didn't minimize what was going on inside Simon. But he also didn't leave him there. He pointed him toward repentance.

Following Jesus sometimes means seeing things about ourselves we'd rather not see. The invitation isn't to hide from God. It's to turn toward him and let him work there too.

Sometimes the hardest things to see are the things we’ve lived with long enough to call normal. Anger. Resentment. Needing control. Whatever it is, feeling normal doesn’t mean it has to keep owning you. God can work with that.
