A Ray of Hope from Hope2Africa: An NBI Journey 🌱

From NBI student to ministry leader, Vuyo Vatsha’s journey reflects growth, calling, and purpose. After completing the NBI Basic Course, Vuyo was equipped with a strong foundation that shaped his early ministry steps. The training gave him confidence and clarity to teach God’s Word faithfully, and led him to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree. He acknowledges that NBI played a key role in helping him recognise and pursue God’s calling.

Today, Vuyo leads Hope2Africa, an NPO from the Norwegian Settlers Church, alongside his wife Sli. Their ministry is focused on raising the next generation of African leaders passionate about the Gospel and discipleship, based in Port Shepstone, KZN. The impact of NBI continues to multiply as Hope2Africa now requires their staff to complete NBI courses. In May, NBI visited Hope2Africa and is continuing an ongoing study partnership, with graduates serving in communities in South Africa and Norway.

Christian counselling is rooted in faith and the teachings of Jesus Christ, offering guidance and mentorship for life’s challenges. It draws on prayer, scripture, and a deep faith in God’s divine direction, healing grace, and unfailing love. This approach speaks to the whole person: spirit, mind, and body, bringing a sense of peace, strength, and restoration that goes beyond what the world can offer. In times of struggle, many people explore other avenues in search of healing, whether through spiritual practices, substances, or alternative belief systems. While these may promise relief, true and lasting transformation is found in a relationship with Christ, who is the ultimate source of hope and healing.

Our affiliate at Vastfontein hosts a dedicated study group that is actively exploring counselling, as well as the various religious and cultural practices people often turn to in search of help, many of which do not bring lasting solutions. This journey of learning deepens our understanding, while firmly grounding us in the truth that Christianity offers the most reliable path to lasting life, true freedom, and complete restoration.

TESTIMONY OF EMPOWERMENT: SONGWRITING & PREACHING

Since joining the NBI Leadership and Ministry Development programme at Vastfontein Community Transformation, I have experienced deep spiritual growth and personal transformation. Coming from a numerical background, I initially struggled with reading and writing, but through the guidance of dedicated lecturers and structured module support, I was able to overcome these challenges.

Those around me have witnessed a clear shift in my life and leadership style. I have become more solution-focused and less reactive to challenges that once overwhelmed me. I have learned the importance of stewardship, both in service to God and to the church community. This journey has helped me discover and develop gifts I never believed I had. I am now composing beautiful songs with greater spiritual depth and wisdom. My preaching has considerably grown in confidence and impact, with a stronger ability to interpret scripture in context and help others understand it more clearly. What once felt like a burden has become a joy, as sermon preparation now inspires me through research and reflection. I can see renewed enthusiasm in my congregation and a deeper engagement during services.

Perseverance pays at Nicholas Bengu Theological College

There’s something powerful about sitting across the table from people who are quietly shaping lives, one student at a time. That’s exactly what we experienced during our recent visit to NBTC in Henley-On-Klip, Meyerton. Since becoming an NBI affiliate in 2022, NBTC has been faithfully equipping men and women called to serve, many of whom are now ministering in churches, supporting communities, working in hospitals, serving the elderly, and youth. 🌱

Behind every success story is a journey. Students travel long distances, juggle family responsibilities, and push through the demands of study, all because they carry a deep calling to serve God and complete the NBI course. NBTC continues to stand as a hub of influence within the Assemblies of God group of churches, hosting pastors’ conferences, workshops, and gatherings across the country, creating spaces where leaders are encouraged, equipped, and sent out to impact communities.

What stood out most was their heart for training, a desire to make learning more accessible, more practical, and more reachable for every student who dares to say 'yes' to their calling. As they prepare for their upcoming exams and graduation later this year, they remind us that every sash represents more than a qualification, it represents sacrifice, obedience, and unwavering faith.

🎓 NBI Affiliate Spotlight: Vastfontein, Rural Pretoria

We visited Vastfontein Community Centre, led by Principal Mathilda and Registrar Mmapula. Students, aged 28–48, walk miles to attend NBI’s NQF Level 5 programme, growing spiritually and academically. Graduates receive counselling during their studies to ensure nothing hinders them from fulfilling their calling. Graduates serve in prisons, churches, high schools, communities, chaplaincies and ministries—multiplying impact across South Africa.
