It’s not every week that we get international visitors, but this Sunday we made some new friends from Japan: Pastor Hitoshi Adachi, his wife Satoko, and their friend Misae. The Adachis have been serving as missionaries with ELCA Global Mission in Kumamoto, Japan, since 2018, and before that they served for many years in the Pacifica Lutheran Synod that includes Southern California and Hawaii. Pastor Adachi recently retired, so they have more time to visit their adult children and grandchildren who live in the U.S. It was our joy to welcome these wonderful folks and hear about their lives and ministry!

This Sunday’s sermon celebrated the legacy of the great Dolly Parton, whose generosity was tied to her upbringing and to her faith. Some have described Dolly as having a rogue faith outside the structures of regular church attendance, but her Christianity was quite true to the earliest generations of disciples who were learning what it meant to follow Jesus in the earliest years after his life, death, and resurrection.
