Getting to know the Bishopric!
Meet Samuel Tempest!
Golden Gate Ward 🌟 1st Counselor🌟

💭Tell us a little about you and your family!
My wife McKae and I have a 1 year old girl named Stella who has fully taken over the show at the Tempest household. As a family, we love to hike and spend time at the beach. My wife is more of a home body while I love to be on the move and we both love to travel.

💭 What’s an ideal weekend for you?
We would start the day at the beach where we could surf and play in the sand. Then we would get some good food and meet up with friends and family for a chill hang out session. We would then end the night with an outdoor movie and a BBQ.

💭 What is your favorite smell from your childhood?
Fresh cut grass always makes us think of summertime and playing night games with friends.

💭 What's a movie you can practically quote from start to finish?
The Notebook, Home Alone, and She's the Man

💭What has required the most courage of you in your life so far?
Serving a Mission and moving away from family

💭When do you feel closest to the savior?
Sam: While spending time with family and in nature. McKae: When I am praying.

God’s message is that repentance and change are necessary. He wants His children to improve and become all they are capable of becoming.

“God loves us as we are, but He also loves us too much to leave us this way. Growing up unto the Lord is what mortality is all about. Change is what Christ’s Atonement is all about. Not only can Christ resurrect, cleanse, console and heal us, but through it all, He can transform us to become more like Him.”

For World Mental Heath Day, I wanted to share a few of my favorite quotes from a talk by Elder Erich W. Kopishke during last week’s General Conference.

💚 “One of the first things we need to learn is that we are certainly not alone."

💚 “Educating ourselves about mental illness prepares us to help ourselves and others who might be struggling. Open and honest discussion with one another will help this important topic to receive the attention it deserves. After all, information precedes inspiration and revelation. These all-too-often invisible challenges can affect anyone, and when we are facing them, they appear insurmountable."

💚”The Savior loves each of His Father’s children. He fully comprehends the pain and struggles that many experience as they live with a broad range of mental health challenges.”

💚 If you are personally struggling with mental health, know that God loves you, and so do we.

Getting to know the Bishopric!
Meet Eric Engebretsen!
Golden Gate Ward 🌟2nd Counselor🌟

💭Tell us a little about you and your family!
We're the Engebretsen's! My wife Morgan and I met at a 70's disco party and we have a little toddler named Redford. We named him after Robert Redford, who founded the Sundance Ski Resort because we love to be outside, be active, appreciate God's creations and we want our son to do the same.

💭What’s an ideal weekend for you?
My formula for an ideal weekend includes getting outside for some sort of activity (beach, pickleball, park hangout, bike ride, etc), checking out an event or new part of the city, and knocking a restaurant off our "must try list".

💭What is your favorite smell from your childhood?
My family's buttermilk pancake recipe with peanut butter & apple sauce!

💭What's a movie you can practically quote from start to finish?
Ferris Bueller's Day Off -- it's an 80's classic and one of the best movies of all time!

💭What has required the most courage of you in your life so far?
I was honestly nervous to start our family and have a baby (lol even though I didn't to do any of the work during pregnancy/delivery). I was hesitant about all the life changes a baby brings, but I am so grateful for the faith of my partner and wife, Morgan, and I couldn't even imagine life without our little dude and the happiness he brings us.

💭When do you feel closest to the savior?
I feel closest to the Savior when I'm ministering to others. Growing up, my Dad was a great example of inviting and including others, and jumping on opportunities to serve. I've found when I sacrifice my own time for the benefit of someone else, it helps me feel closer to the Savior and I notice a difference in my life. :)
