Why does God ask us to believe things which seem impossible? From Rev. Lee's weekly message: "Faith often emerges precisely when we cannot fully understand. Abraham walks up the mountain carrying both trust and anguish. He cannot see the outcome, yet he continues forward, trusting his God." Read more: https://sfswedenborgian.org/the-path-of-faith/

The story in Genesis 22 is challenging. In it, God orders Abraham to offer his son Isaac as a burnt offering, and Abraham appears to obey the command of God without hesitation. This Sunday, Rev. Lee explores a deeper meaning of this challenging story, and its spiritual significance. youtube.com/

Why is the Bible written like a parable; stories with embedded meanings? From Rev. Lee's weekly message: "These deeper meanings concern the process of human transformation, or the gradual turning of the heart and mind from a merely worldly focus toward a spiritual one." Isaac is perhaps one of the quieter figures in the Bible, often overshadowed by Abraham before him and Jacob after him. Yet Isaac holds a vital place in the story of Genesis. He was the long-awaited miracle child born to Abraham and Sarah in their old age, and he later became the father of Jacob, who became Israel, whose children became the ancestors of the twelve tribes of Israel. This Sunday, Rev. Lee will reflect on the role of Isaac in Genesis and explore Emanuel Swedenborg’s understanding of what Isaac symbolizes in our spiritual journey. youtube.com/

Is the Garden of Eden forever closed to us? From Rev. Lee's weekly message: "We live as though we are in a permanent state of exile, struggling to find a way back to a lost sanctuary. However, the spiritual truth is more hopeful: the Garden planted by God is still there, nestled deeply within the quietest corners of the mind." Throughout the Bible, there are many moments where images of stillness and quiet are described. There are the “still waters” in the most well-known Psalm, “The Lord is My Shepherd,” where the Lord as our shepherd leads us to green pastures and quiet, still waters. But such quiet and stillness can be hard to find find, let alone listen to, in the midst of our busy and alarming world—its wars and crises, the economic disparities of our city, the juxtapositions between the Waymos and the many unhoused. This message meditates on the power of stillness, and how we might find the small, quiet voice of God, still speaking amidst a constant state of distractions. youtube.com/
