St. Andrew's Episcopal Church

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church The Episcopal Church and School in New Orleans' Carrollton Neighborhood.

"Living our Baptismal Promises empowered by the Holy Spirit we are a community of faith that boldly professes that Jesus rose from the dead and in his victory we find new life. Sunday after Sunday we gather to celebrate Holy Eucharist and being enriched by the Scriptures, Communion, and Community we are strengthened to go forth and put our faith into action. Bearing the name of ANDREW, our patron

we constantly invite others to the joys that we have found and welcome the gifts that others bring to our church to help us grow in diversity, justice and love."

St. Andrew’s Go Green

What if there was a plant that could attract pollinators, birds, and make a tasty snack? Sunflowers are native to the Americas and are easy to plant and grow. Sunflowers grow best in fertile, moist, well-drained soil with heavy mulch. You can plant sunflowers in south Louisiana from now until mid September and experience bountiful blooms until early December.
If you plant Mongolian Giant, Shock-O-Lat, and Mammoth Sunflowers, you can harvest and eat the seeds. Harvest the seeds when the flowers begin to lose petals, the back of the flower is yellow, and the seeds wiggle like loose teeth. Rinse seeds and soak for 12 hours in warm salt water. Bake at 300 degrees for 30 minutes or until dry. Enjoy! May we all be like sunflowers and follow the Rising Son!
