Receiving something in the Bible, most of the time means you just got it. No will of your own. No choice to receive. You just got it.
For example.
You received life. No one asked you if you wanted to live. It wasn’t a choice of yours. You just got life as a free gift. You received it.
Paul said in 2 Cor. 11:24 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.
That doesn’t mean he wanted the stripes. He did not choose the stripes. He just got them. He received them.
John the Baptist said:
John 3:27
King James Version
27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
Not of man’s will, you get it. It comes upon you, you receive it.
I Cor 4: 7 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?
You received! Not of the will of the flesh , nor of the will of man , but of God.
It came upon you.
2 kinds of receiving:
1 it’s offered and you take, volitionally. In this case, if you don’t willfully take then you don’t get it.
2 it just comes to you. It comes upon you. You receive it, you just get it. Like as you received life as a baby , In this case, like it or not, it’s yours. Deal with it!
