There are a lot of moments in our journey with Jesus where we are learning and unlearning things, being invited into further life transformation, and ultimately encountering Him in new and deeper ways. How different would your journey be if you saw Jesus, not condemning you, but rooting you on, encouraging you, or saying “keep going you’re almost there?”

So Close
Mark 12:28-34

“You’re so close” in some contexts can be taken as an encouragement or in others a correction. In Mark 12 this week, Jesus offers similar words to a teacher of the law who was willing to engage with Jesus and listen to what He had to say. This interaction and its open-ended conclusion invites us to wonder if Jesus is saying to us, “you’re so close, you’re almost there” or maybe “you’re so close, yet so far away."

Have you ever wondered what Jesus meant when He tells us that we have to have faith like a child? Well, as we see in Mark 10:13-16 and in other passages like it, Jesus is inviting us into a life of dependence upon His grace and love in order to experience the blessings of His Kingdom. No earning necessary, no performance to accomplish, and no ladder to climb. Just come and receive what Jesus wants to give.

“I believe, help my unbelief” is an authentic and honest plea of a father who desperately needed Jesus to heal his son in Mark 9. What is awesome about Jesus is that He received and honored this man’s genuine prayer. It’s always an encouragement to know that we don’t have to have things all together when we pray to God, we just have to be willing to keep trusting Him. It’s also good to know that our faith is seen as genuine to God, even though we may have doubts and fears.
