A journey begins in an unexpected place: the pits. Psalm 120 gives voice to the pain of feeling surrounded by deceit, conflict, and hostility. For those who trust in the Lord, faithfulness can sometimes make us the target of words and actions that leave us feeling distant from God and disconnected from His peace.

Yet even here, the journey begins. In the middle of the struggle, the psalmist cries out to the Lord and discovers that God's peace—shalom—is greater than the chaos around him. When the weeds of war seem to choke out peace, God invites us to keep walking, trusting, and ascending toward Him.

As we travel through the Psalms of Ascent this summer, we'll discover how these ancient "songs for the road" point us to Jesus and guide us on our own journey of faith.

Whether you're at the lake, on a road trip, in an airport, or relaxing at home this summer, don't miss a week of the series! 🎧 Listen to the sermon podcast and take these Songs for the Road with you wherever your summer adventures lead.

Our first of fifteen "Psalms of Ascent" begins "in the pits." Trust in the LORD, can make us a target of words that make us feel distant from the LORD. The Spirit's work of peace - SHALOM - feels choked out by the weeds of war. From here, our Journey with and TO Jesus begins.

In Luke 7:18-23, John learns something powerful: his story only makes sense when it’s viewed as part of God’s bigger story. Even in seasons of confusion, God is still shaping, refining, and working through us.

This week in our BLESS Others series, we explored how sharing our story can point people to the hope and faithfulness of Jesus.

BLESS Others: Story
Luke 7:18-23

With regard to Jesus, John the Baptist goes from “all in” to disoriented and wondering “are you even the One?” in just a few short years. But the threatening circumstances that cause him to wonder turn out to be a sharp tool in the hand of a gracious God and Life-Shaper. John is learning that his own story, is best understood as a part of God’s much great and more amazing story.

What does it look like to truly serve others the way Jesus did?

Last Sunday, we explored Mark 7:31-37 and saw how Jesus not only healed a man who was deaf and unable to speak clearly, but also showed deep compassion, care, and personal attention along the way. Jesus served this man well — and through this story, we’re reminded that the Gospel empowers us to serve others too.

As we follow Jesus, serving becomes more than just helping people. It transforms our hearts, deepens our faith, and helps others experience the love of Christ through us.

How is God inviting you to serve someone this week? 💙
