A journey begins in an unexpected place: the pits. Psalm 120 gives voice to the pain of feeling surrounded by deceit, conflict, and hostility. For those who trust in the Lord, faithfulness can sometimes make us the target of words and actions that leave us feeling distant from God and disconnected from His peace.
Yet even here, the journey begins. In the middle of the struggle, the psalmist cries out to the Lord and discovers that God's peace—shalom—is greater than the chaos around him. When the weeds of war seem to choke out peace, God invites us to keep walking, trusting, and ascending toward Him.
As we travel through the Psalms of Ascent this summer, we'll discover how these ancient "songs for the road" point us to Jesus and guide us on our own journey of faith.
