Pastor's Corner for Sunday, June 7, 2026:

Dear friends of Jesus Christ,

What a blessing to hear the testimonies the past two weeks. Thank you Kim, Konni, Ava, and Karla. Thanks for your vulnerability and for pointing us toward the God who is with us and growing us in difficult times. Thanks for encouraging surrender and trust. Thanks for encouraging us to reach out to one another for prayer.

If it’s on your heart to share a 5-minute testimony, feel free to talk to me about it. Every testimony is different. It doesn’t have to be like other people’s testimonies. What has God done in your life that you would like to share with the congregation? I will be glad to hear it!

God did a lot in Jacob’s life and Joseph’s life which he shared with the world in the book of Genesis. Today’s passage is Genesis 39. The sermon is entitled “Resist temptation. God is with you.” This is the story of Joseph resisting Potiphar’s wife. It’s also about God being with Joseph at Potiphar’s estate and beyond. I am going to make applications to these two themes today.

We will also be eating and drinking the Lord’s Supper today. Prepare your hearts and minds this morning for this special meal. Confess any sins you need to confess. Come to the meal with a clean conscience and an open heart. Come and receive grace for your soul. Receive God’s presence. He loves you.

May the Holy Spirit move among us and in us today!
Let’s worship the Lord!

Pastor's Corner for Sunday, May 31, 2026:

Dear friends of Jesus Christ,

It was great to hear Kim Poll’s testimony last week. It fit so well into the Joseph series between “Wrestling with God” and “God on the move.” I hope you will wrestle with God in prayer as you need to. It’s best to take your struggles and emotions to him, rather than stuffing them. And I hope you can come to a place of surrender and peace.

Today we will hear another testimony. I am looking forward to it. I believe that three people will be sharing together. May God use it. And maybe the Holy Spirit will tap your heart to share a testimony. Be open!

Today we will continue the Joseph series with the rest of Genesis 37. The passage is Genesis 37:12-36. The sermon is entitled “God at work in and through the pit.” This is the story of Joseph’s brothers stripping him of his coat and throwing him into a pit before selling him to Ishmaelite traders. What was that like for 17 year old Joseph? What are the connections to Jesus Christ? What are the applications to us?

Tonight we have an Intercession worship service at 6pm. The young adults will lead us to pray for missionaries and for the lost. These services have been so Spirit-filled!
On another note, many of the crops are now in the ground in our area. Let’s pray for a great growing season for our local farmers.

Thank you for coming to the house of the Lord to worship our awesome God each and every Sunday morning. He is worthy and we are so blessed to be his people.

Let’s exalt him today!

In Christ,
Pastor Nathan

Pastor's Corner for Pentecost Sunday, May 24, 2026:

Dear friends of Jesus Christ,

What is my favorite part of being a pastor? My favorite part is when I see God on the move. It’s when I see God change a life or work through a life in ministry. I love that the God, who created this vast universe, comes down here and works in people’s lives, even right here in West Michigan, even right here at East Saugatuck Church.

Sometimes God works quite suddenly to save someone or minister to someone. Sometimes he heals spiritually or physically or relationally. These acts of God are amazing! I’ve experienced this. Sometimes he doesn’t heal a physical issue, but he gives strength and peace to make it through one step at a time. I’ve seen this too. Often God works gradually in someone’s life to bring them to faith. Often he works beautifully through someone’s faithful, routine ministry.

God is on the move in the church body in our unity and love and building each other up. He is on the move in outreach ministry too. He cares about the poor. He cares about the lost. Sometimes he works in young people and fires them up spiritually. And then they want to start a worship service! He also works in the older generation, giving wisdom and love and hope.

God frees people from addictions. God leads people to confession and repentance. God leads us into relationship with one another. God is on the move here and now. That is my favorite part of being a pastor.
Today’s sermon is entitled “God is on the move.” The Scripture is Genesis 37:1-11. This is the beginning of the Joseph story where God is on the move in the life of a 17 year old boy. It’s all part of his grand plan of redemption.

Today we are also going to hear a testimony from one of our members. God has been on the move in this person’s life. I look forward to hearing it.

How has God been on the move in your life? That’s going to be the sermon application today. Reflect on that question. And what might God still do? We know this: He is a God who is on the move in churches and families and individual lives.

Thank God that He is on the move. We need him.

Let’s have a great worship service today.

In Christ,
Pastor Nathan

Pastor's Corner for Sunday, May 17, 2026:

Dear friends of Jesus Christ,

We’ve had some special Sundays recently. We had Youth Sunday, Cadet Sunday, and GEMs Sunday. Last week it was Mother’s Day. What great ministry we have going on around here! Soon, maybe today, we will receive an update about our Blue Star Elementary Ministries: Kids Hope (Stephanie) Hand to Hand (Karla), and Walking in the Light Bible group (Lori K.). Thank you, sisters and all who have volunteered at Blue Star this past year. Thank you for the time and love and prayers you put in. It’s great to be part of God advancing his word and his love in this school. It is what we pray for when we go over to the school to pray at the beginning of the school year.

Today I will begin a new sermon series. I would like to go through the story of Joseph. It’s a moving story at the end of Genesis. But before we get to Joseph specifically, I would like to do one sermon about Joseph’s father Jacob. Today’s Scripture is Genesis 32. The sermon is entitled, “Wrestling with God.” Jacob had to wrestle with God about his past and about his self-reliance. We all have had things to wrestle with God about. Are you wrestling with him about anything right now?

How does a person wrestle with God?
What is on the other side of the wrestling?
Let’s talk about that today.
And let’s worship our great God!

In Christ,
Pastor Nathan

p.s. I want to remind you that the all church mission trip is happening June 13-19. Let’s be in prayer for those who will be traveling. Andy Tucker will be the point person and others will help. Feel free to talk to Andy if you have any questions. We will pass along more information as we have it.
