In this series based on her book, "Sacred Balance: How Ancient Practices Can Restore Modern Minds," Rev. Miriam Diephouse will dive into the rich benefits of five time-tested spiritual practices. She will highlight both the deep spiritual roots of each practice and the current mental health research that supports their value. Each session will include a 5-minute guided practice.

St. John's is more than a church family, it is a place you find true belonging, and more! Meet 2 of our 12 Nancys at St. John's. Nancy and Nancy met at St. John's and after attending a youth's choir concert together decided over dinner that they would travel together. They've been traveling for over 10 years and have become like sisters. This is the type of love you find at St. John's.

In last week's message, Pastor Patrick asked a simple question that's hard to shake: who are you afraid of, and how many of those people do you actually know?

He talked about how easy it is to let fear turn a person into a category. Someone we've never really talked to becomes a headline, a label, a threat. But fear doesn't want us to ask questions. It wants us to imagine the worst and stop there.

The truth Patrick pointed us back to is simple. You can't really love someone until you know them. And once you know them, it gets a lot harder to be afraid of them.

Join us tomorrow at 9:30 a.m., in person or online, as we keep leaning into that call to know each other and love each other well.

Throwback to 2019! That's Emily Marshall ringing the bell at Rise Against Hunger, the moment that means another round of meals is packed and ready to go out to families who need them.

And we're doing it again! St. John's is hosting Rise Against Hunger on September 13, from 1 to 3 PM. Come pack meals alongside your church family, your neighbors, and anyone else who wants to pitch in for an afternoon.

No experience needed. Just show up ready to work.

Fall Kick-Off is just around the corner! Mark your calendars for September 27 at SkyZone, where where we're getting the year started right.

And before then, swing by the youth room. The Youth Council has made a whole summer of changes and we can't wait for you to see it.

Last week our youth came home from Montreat with something they wanted the whole church to have, too.

Every morning up there, they said this together: We belong. We are blessed. We matter. We are favored. Remember. Turns out those words aren't just for teenagers.

And when they got home, they were the ones who stood up and led us last week, sharing what they learned.

"May your journey with Christ be rich in wondering and wide in wandering. May you honor and embrace each stranger as assembly. May your faith be more vibrant than you fear, and may you know grace in your suffering. May your hope in Jesus be outrageous and unreasonable, and may you seek and savor the manna in the wilderness."

Join us this morning at 9:30 a.m. this morning to continue walking together on this journey.

Did you know the time food banks need donations most isn't the holidays, it's right now?

Once the big Thanksgiving and Christmas drives wrap up, shelves start emptying out-- especially over the summer-- and they stay empty until school and organizational food drives ramp back up in the fall.

So this summer, some of our church family loaded up a trunk full of groceries, bag after bag of cereal, pasta, and pantry staples, right in the church parking lot. That's what showing up for your neighbors looks like.
