Walking into a church for the first time can feel a little daunting. As a fairly new follower of Jesus, Katy Love worried she’d feel like an outsider.

Then came her first Sunday at St. John’s.

She still remembers Pastor Patrick’s sermon that morning, about Jesus as an immigrant and what it means to truly empathize with all people. Not long after, she joined the choir. Since then she’s found Thursday night rehearsals where they pray for each other and celebrate good news, birthday cake at fellowship hour, and dishes done together after Wednesday night suppers.

“I have felt completely accepted, truly loved, and never once like an outsider.”

Thank you, Katy, for sharing your story this stewardship season. It’s a good reminder of why we give: so the next person who walks through our doors feels that same welcome.

At the Fall Festival, our kids rolled up their sleeves and packed school kits with Church World Service ( ) for children here in the US and around the world.

Each kit is filled with school and art supplies that help a child feel cared for, supported, and ready to learn, whether that’s at home, in a classroom, or wherever life takes them.

Thank you to every kid (and every grown-up helper) who showed up for neighbors they may never meet.

We had a BLAST at the Fall Festival on Sunday! Our kids' favorite parts were SpOoKy BINGO and Bobbing for Gummy worms in whip cream! Hope to see you next year at our favorite Fall event of the year!

Dr. Brennan Breed led the first part of our Pop-Up Sunday School on Exodus last week, and the room was full of good questions and good conversation. Today is part two, and the last session. Our youth group is leading a church-wide clothing drive for Chester County Migrant Ministry, and they’d love the whole church family to pitch in.

What’s needed:
• New children’s pajamas
• Mittens
• Socks for all ages, kids through adults

As the weather turns colder, these simple things make a real difference for families in our own county. A pack of socks or a pair of warm pj’s is an easy way to show up for our neighbors.

Donations are being collected now through November 10.

And if you want to hear more about the work behind this, the Executive Director of Chester County Migrant Ministry will be joining us for Lunch & Learn in December.

The Fall Festival is this Sunday, and it’s one of our favorite afternoons of the whole year at St. John’s.

Bring the kids, bring your appetite, and come in costume if you like. Children can make the rounds to our game stations and pick up a treat at each one. Then we’ll all sit down together at 5:15 p.m. for a free dinner and Spooooky Bingo.

Today’s Lunch & Learn gave us a lot to chew on, and not just the sandwiches.

Rev. Dr. Jeff Smith joined us to share about his volunteer work with Love Justice International, an organization working to stop human trafficking before it happens. One thing he said is still sitting with us:

“Churches are really good at providing care to those who lack access to clean water or that are hungry, tangible things that we can do, but that’s only part of the Gospel. The full Gospel is freeing the oppressed, and Love Justice provides a way to do that.”

To date, Love Justice has prevented 119,276 people from being trafficked. That number grows every day.

Thanksgiving dinner is about more than the turkey. It’s the potatoes, the stuffing, the green beans, the pie, and the people around the table.

This year, our Outreach Committee is partnering with the Everything but the Turkey project at Gemma Services to help 30 Philadelphia families share a full Thanksgiving meal.

There are two ways to be part of it:

Stay after worship this Sunday, October 18, and help us pack the food into bags. Many hands, quick work, and good company.

Pick up a $25 Walmart gift card so families can shop for fresh items of their own choosing. Bring cards to Nancy Higgins during coffee fellowship or drop them by the church office by Sunday, October 18.

Costumes, Spooooky Bingo, and dinner with your church family. The Fall Festival is back!

Join us Sunday, October 25, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Kids can make the rounds at our game stations and pick up a treat along the way. Dinner and bingo for everyone start at 5:15 p.m., and dinner is on us.

Halloween costumes are encouraged for all ages. (Yes, grown-ups too!)
