Today we celebrate Saint Monica's son, Saint Augustine, who became a Doctor of the Church. Saint Augustine lived a wild lifestyle before committing himself to Christ and becoming one of our greatest Saints! While his first quote here is arguably his most famous, the second lesser-known quote beautifully refers to Saint Monica.

Today we celebrate the feast of our patron, Saint Monica who prayed tirelessly for the conversion of both her violent husband and wayward son Augustine. Monica is a relatable saint. She dealt with a difficult mother in law. She felt lonely at times in practicing her faith. She wondered if her prayers would ever be answered. Many of us can empathize with aspects of her life. Monica’s prayers, tears, and unceasing faith are what make her heroic. May we be inspired to be like her. Read some ideas above on how to emulate Monica. As we approach the feasts of our parish patron, Saint Monica, and her son Saint Augustine, join us for the Hallow Prayer Challenge: Monica & Augustine. Journey through their lives, hearing lesser known stories about them, and having a chance to reflect and pray. Each day's segment is about 8 minutes long. We have established a spiritual rhythm through creating our Rule of Life and we’ve been living it out for a few weeks. It will soon be time to see how it’s all been going. The next step is an examen. There is a more official Ignatian Examen which is great and is done daily. This is a more casual, but still prayerful reflection to do each month and at the 3 month point. It’s important to periodically reflect on our spiritual life and see what’s going well and needs adjustment!

Saint Monica Parish will be celebrating Saint Monica's Feast Day on Sunday, August 30. This year's celebration will begin with honoring our patron at the all the Masses that day. Following each of our three Masses that day, everyone is invited to the School Cafeteria in the Parish Center for a breakfast and community gathering. Please save the date! No RSVPs for this event, just join us!

St. Monica's Service & Outreach Ministry coordinates meaningful opportunities to serve for all ages and levels of availability. Whether you lend a hand at one event or throughout the year, we'd love to have you! High school students in search of service hours are welcome. Some activities can even be completed from home, making it easy for families with young children or busy schedules to participate (making casseroles, cutting out angels for the tree, writing cards for the homebound, etc).
This ministry plans parish favorites including the Autumn & Lenten Days of Service, Thanksgiving Meal Drive, Advent Angel Giving Tree, and more.
