“Packing for the Promise” 6/7/2026 https://youtu.be/KBS5bfVgH44
At the beginning of Genesis, the Lord commands Abram to leave his country, Haran, and go with his family and possessions to Canaan. Pastor Rebecca invites us to consider what we would pack for a trip to somewhere unknown. All you have been told is that the trip will create blessings. Abram's answer was to take his community. Our communities ground us, encourage us, strengthen us, push us to grow, inspire us, and help us reach our full potential. Let us not forget that we are called into community by God.

May 31, 2026 Sermon, “The Great Co-Missioning” https://youtu.be/q8W-UVsfvjY
Pastor Rebecca’s text is from Matthew 28:16-20, known as the “Great Commission.” This is Jesus’ final command to his disciples to spread the gospel to all nations, reminding them that “I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Perhaps Jesus’ parting words are not a Great Commission with the sole purpose of converting people to Christianity, but perhaps it is a "Great Co-Missioning," an act of nurturing, cultivating, growing community, and articulating our faith together. We continue to be disciples and co-missioners when we ask questions such as “Who is God for me now?” and “What would God have me do?” and “Where is God moving in the world?” Let us continue on this journey of learning and living together, co-missioning as so many have done before us.

May 24, 2026 Sermon, “The Spirit Poured Out”: https://youtu.be/Hxyg_Gsvtrg
Pastor Rebecca's message for Pentecost Sunday is Acts 2:1-21. The disciples remain in the upper room in Jerusalem, faithfully waiting as Jesus had asked them to at his Ascension. What exactly had Jesus promised? What exactly were they waiting for? Then, all of a sudden, there’s a violent rush of wind that filled the whole house, and divided tongues as of fire appeared on each of their heads as well as to the crowds gathered outside. This was the Spirit poured out.

This was the power of God connecting people through languages and creating God’s community as the new church. As we celebrate the birthday of the church, let us also celebrate all the new, inspired, creative, and unique ways we can be the church together.

Come be part of us. Zoom service at 9:00am, in person at 10:30am (includes cookies and lemonade). Celebrating Pride month🏳️‍🌈 bcgv.org

What a profound loss to the community and to the arts in Philadelphia.

Van Reigersberg helped expand what drag could look and sound like in Philadelphia: theatrical, literary, absurd, deeply musical, and emotionally alive.

May 17, 2026 Sermon, "Ever Blessing, Ever Blest”
https://youtu.be/gt-FUG7k7zA

Jesus’ ascension, as told in Luke 24:44 -53, is Pastor Rebecca's sermon topic. For his disciples, it has now been forty-three days since Easter. Just in case the bewilderment and great joy of the empty tomb and the resurrection has worn off for them, and for us, Jesus offers us a new dose of bewilderment through a new act of supernatural phenomena: ascending into heaven.
And so, as Jesus is ever blessing us, may he be ever blessed by us. May we be filled with his blessings and return them with singing, and prayer and praise until that day when we are reunited in the presence of the great cloud of witnesses, the fullness of the communion of saints. May Jesus’ blessing fill us with happiness we cannot contain. May Jesus’ blessings make us a blessing for others. bcgv.org awab.org abcusa.

Pastor Rebecca's May 10, 2026 Sermon, "Nurturing Love” https://youtu.be/QER6RE3cQVM

John 14: 15-21 Jesus prepares the Disciples for the time when he will not be with them physically on earth. “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever . . . I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live.”
Words of comfort and encouragement. Jesus promises a nurturing love that dares to create an inclusive community where all are welcomed and affirmed, healed and fed. A love that we know is possible because Jesus has not left us orphaned, he has given us the Holy Spirit.
