Fatima Morning Offering
O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You my prayers, works, joys and sufferings, all that this day may bring, be they good or bad: for the love of God, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for all the sins committed against the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Amen.

Daily Gospel Readings
'As Jesus got into a boat, his disciples followed him.
Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea,
so that the boat was being swamped by waves;
but he was asleep.
They came and woke him, saying,
“Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
He said to them, “Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?”
Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea,
and there was great calm.
The men were amazed and said, “What sort of man is this,
whom even the winds and the sea obey?”'
Matthew 8:23-27

Daily Gospel Readings
'When Jesus saw a crowd around him,
he gave orders to cross to the other shore.
A scribe approached and said to him,
"Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."
Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests,
but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head."
Another of his disciples said to him,
"Lord, let me go first and bury my father."
But Jesus answered him, "Follow me,
and let the dead bury their dead."'
Matthew 8:18-22

Daily Gospel Readings
'When Jesus had crossed again in the boat
to the other side,
a large crowd gathered around him, and he stayed close to the sea.
One of the synagogue officials, named Jairus, came forward.
Seeing him he fell at his feet and pleaded earnestly with him, saying,
"My daughter is at the point of death.
Please, come lay your hands on her
that she may get well and live."
He went off with him,
and a large crowd followed him and pressed upon him.

There was a woman afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years.
She had suffered greatly at the hands of many doctors
and had spent all that she had.
Yet she was not helped but only grew worse.
She had heard about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd
and touched his cloak.
She said, "If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured."
Immediately her flow of blood dried up.
She felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.
Jesus, aware at once that power had gone out from him,
turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who has touched my clothes?"
But his disciples said to Jesus,
"You see how the crowd is pressing upon you,
and yet you ask, 'Who touched me?'"
And he looked around to see who had done it.
The woman, realizing what had happened to her,
approached in fear and trembling.
She fell down before Jesus and told him the whole truth.
He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has saved you.
Go in peace and be cured of your affliction."

While he was still speaking,
people from the synagogue official's house arrived and said,
"Your daughter has died; why trouble the teacher any longer?"
Disregarding the message that was reported,
Jesus said to the synagogue official,
"Do not be afraid; just have faith."
He did not allow anyone to accompany him inside
except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James.
When they arrived at the house of the synagogue official,
he caught sight of a commotion,
people weeping and wailing loudly.
So he went in and said to them,
"Why this commotion and weeping?
The child is not dead but asleep."
And they ridiculed him.
Then he put them all out.
He took along the child's father and mother
and those who were with him
and entered the room where the child was.
He took the child by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum,"
which means, "Little girl, I say to you, arise!"
The girl, a child of twelve, arose immediately and walked around.
At that they were utterly astounded.
He gave strict orders that no one should know this
and said that she should be given something to eat.'
Mark 5:21-43

Daily Gospel Readings
'Jesus had revealed himself to his disciples
and, when they had finished breakfast, said to Simon Peter,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”
Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
He then said to Simon Peter a second time,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”
Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
He said to him the third time,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time,
“Do you love me?” and he said to him,
“Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.
Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger,
you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted;
but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands,
and someone else will dress you
and lead you where you do not want to go.”
He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God.
And when he had said this, he said to him, “Follow me.”'
John 21:15-19

Daily Gospel Readings
'When Jesus came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him.
And then a l***r approached, did him homage, and said,
“Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.”
He stretched out his hand, touched him, and said,
“I will do it. Be made clean.”
His leprosy was cleansed immediately.
Then Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one,
but go show yourself to the priest,
and offer the gift that Moses prescribed;
that will be proof for them.”'
Matthew 8:1-4

Father Carey’s Pastor’s Corner - Week of 06/30/24

My Dear Friends,

This weekend, we celebrate the Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. We continue to read from the Gospel of Mark. Last Sunday, we heard about Jesus calming the storm, the first of four miracles that Jesus performs in the vicinity of the Sea of Galilee. Today’s Gospel reports two stories of healing. One story tells us about a father’s great love for his dying daughter. The other story tells us about a desperate woman who risks much as she seeks healing from Jesus. In each story, the request for healing is highlighted as a courageous “act of faith”. Very different circumstances are represented by the lives of each suffering person.

The contrasts between Jairus and the woman with the hemorrhage are stark and revealing. One is a man; the other is a woman. One is a public official, an important person in the community. The other is awoman who has lost everything to find a cure to a condition that separated her from the community. One approaches Jesus publicly. The other approaches Jesus secretly. Yet in each case, their courageous “faith” leads them to seek out Jesus in their time of need.

The Gospel concludes with Jesus’ instructions to remain silent about these miracles. This has always perplexed many people and is typical of Mark’s Gospel and is sometimes referred to as the “messianic secret”. Repeatedly, those who witness Jesus’ power and authority are instructed to not speak of what theyhave witnessed. But time and time again, we see that these instructions appear impossible to obey by thoseinvolved. But in each case, they seem to emphasize the fact that each individual, including us (the presentdayreaders of Mark’s Gospel), must, in the end, make his or her own judgment about Jesus’ true identity. Likewise, each and every one of us regardless of class, status or circumstance of life, must make our own “act of faith” in affirming Jesus truly as the Son of God, the One who heals our many afflictions in life.

Last weekend, we concluded our annual Baby Bottle Drive for Mother’s Home in Darby. I thank all of you who participated in this annual drive that helps so many and I look forward to sharing with you soon the total amount raised. As you may recall, this drive began on Mother’s Day and, in conjunction with it, we sold roses outside of church for our mothers to help raise monies on behalf of the various programs and initiatives of our Pro-Life ministry. I am grateful especially to Vince Silveri who so generously gives of his time to help in this endeavor. I am happy to report to you that we collected a total of $581 for Guiding Star Maternity Home, Philadelphia. Thanks to all who so generously gave to this important Pro-Life cause in the life of our local parish church as well as the wider community.

As a reminder, our Festival Thermometer has returned! Our goal this year has been set at $7,500. Please consider making a donation to our annual Festival appeal this year as it really helps to defray the many costs and expenses associated with the feast. A donation box is located in the back of church, or you may go to the Festival page on our website to donate online. You can keep track of our progress each week by looking at the thermometer in the vestibule of the church as we lead up to the big day of celebration.

In addition to the Festival Thermometer, the Annual Ad Book is being put together as part of our fundraising efforts. All ads, patron club levels & memorials need to be submitted by Friday, July 12th. If you have any question s or need help with your requests, please contact the Parish Office or Millie Slifer at 610-662-6231. I thank you in advance for your generosity towards this annual event and we are looking forward to another wonderful feast!

It seems hard to believe that we are entering into the month of July. This coming Thursday we will commemorate Independence Day. As we celebrate the birth of our nation this coming long weekend of July 4th, I do hope that everyone has an opportunity to get away and/or get some rest with your family and friends. Holidays like this one are special times when we can take the time to enjoy one another’s company whether we are home, at the beach or in the mountains. Relax, and take the opportunity to appreciate the presence of God in these special moments, in the people who are special to you and in the gifts that we have been so freely given to us by the Lord who loves us. A happy and blessed Fourth to all!

Once again, I thank you again for your continued prayerful and financial support of our parish. May God bless you and your families!

Love and Prayers,
Father Carey
