Lekh L'kha (For Yourself, Go) 10/24/2026 - Full Synagogue Service

Join Mikdash Meh'at - A Little Sanctuary for our Full Synagogue Service featuring this week's Torah portion, Lekh L'kha (For Yourself, Go), found in B'resh*t (Genesis) 12:1-17:27.

Lekh L'kha begins with God's call to Avram to leave his country, his relatives, and his father's household and go to the land that God would show him. From that moment forward, the portion unfolds around faith, obedience, covenant, promise, inheritance, blessing, and the formation of a people through whom the nations would ultimately be blessed.

SCRIPTURE READINGS

TORAH

B'resh*t (Genesis) 12:1-17:27

These chapters follow Avram as he responds to God's call and journeys toward the land of promise.

The portion includes Avram's travels through the land, the famine in Egypt, his separation from Lot, the rescue of Lot, his encounter with Malki-Tzedek, the covenant promises concerning descendants and land, the birth of Yishma'el, and the covenant sign of circumcision.

God changes Avram's name to Avraham and Sarai's name to Sarah, reaffirming that His covenant purposes will continue through Yitzkhak.

HAFTARAH

Yesha-Yahu (Isaiah) 40:27-41:16

Isaiah declares that the everlasting God does not grow weary and gives strength to those who wait upon Him.

The passage also speaks of the one called from the east and reassures Israel that God has chosen them, strengthened them, and will uphold them.

This message reflects a central theme of Lekh L'kha: when God calls His people forward, He remains faithful to sustain them through the journey.

BRIT KHADASHAH

Matai (Matthew) 1:1-17

Matthew opens with the genealogy of Yeshua, beginning with Avraham.

This directly connects the covenant promises given to Avraham with the unfolding Messianic story and reminds us that God's promises continue across generations.

Romim (Romans) 3:19-5:6

Romans explains righteousness through faith and uses Avraham as a central example.

Avraham believed God, and his faith was counted to him as righteousness. The passage emphasizes that the promise rests upon faith rather than human achievement and points toward the grace, justification, and hope found through faith.

A JOURNEY OF FAITH

Lekh L'kha is ultimately a call to trust God enough to move when He says move.

Avraham did not begin with every detail of the journey revealed to him. He was called to leave what was familiar and walk toward what God had promised.

Torah Portion: Genesis [B'resh*t] 12:1-9
1Now יהוה said unto Avram, "For yourself, go from your country, and from your kindred, and from your father's house, unto the land that I will show you. 2And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and you will be a blessing. 3And I will bless them that bless you, and him that curses you will I curse; and in you shall all the families of the earth be blessed." 4So Avram went, as יהוה had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him; and Avram was seventy-five years old when he departed out of Kharan. 5And Avram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Kharan; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan [Kena'an]; and into the land of Canaan [Kena'an] they came. 6And Avram passed through the land unto the place of Shekhem, unto the terebinth of Moreh. 8But you, Yisra'el, My servant, Jacob [Ya'akov] whom I have chosen, the seed of Avraham My friend; 9you whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth, and called you from the uttermost parts thereof, and said unto you, 'You are My servant, I have chosen you and not cast you away'; 10fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God [Elohim]; I strengthen you, yes, I help you; yes, I uphold you with My victorious right hand.

Renewed Covenant [Brit Khadashah] Portion: Romans [Romim] 3:29-31
29Why? Is God [Elohim] the God [Elohim] of the Jews [Yehudim] only? Is He not also God [Elohim] of the Gentiles [Goyim]? Yes, He is God [Elohim] of the Gentiles [Goyim] also; 30for there is one God [Elohim], who justifies the circumcision by Absolute Trust [faith/Emunah], and the uncircumcision by the same Absolute Trust [faith/Emunah]. 31What, then? Do we nullify the Torah through Absolute Trust [faith/Emunah]? What profanity! On the contrary, we firmly establish the Torah!

It's about perspective. Noah sees Yeshua's grace, and Yeshua applies grace to Noah. Yeshua is the pathway, the doorway, allowing us to be seen through God's loving gaze. This message is for anyone listening, now or later.

The bedrock of Abraham's faith wasn't his own evaluation, but his unwavering trust in God's word. Grace calls us to a deeper reliance, moving us beyond our initial state.

I strive to be gracious to everyone I meet, rather than condemning. It's easy to judge today, but choosing grace makes all the difference. I hope to always walk in this path.

He walked in silence unto God, doing what was asked even when it seemed crazy. 25 years ago, the idea of a Messianic synagogue in The Woodlands, Texas seemed like idiocy. Doubts arose: 'Do you really want this here?' Yet, grace is not permission to corrupt our walk; it restores and makes it possible.
