M3 Mentoring Men for the Master Encouraging, Training, and Equipping Men to know and follow Jesus

We have mentored men for a good many years and are now working with scores of them in every walk of life. Wherever we go today, we hear men, young and old, lay and clergy, make statements like these, “I know that there is supposed to be more to the Christian life than what I am currently experiencing. I know that I am to be conformed to His image and to walk with Him but I don’t know how…somebody PLEASE show me.”

Colossians 1:9-12

For next time:
1 Kings 18:37-41
1 Kings 19:1-4

LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS

Review the prayer in Col. 1:9-12 as well as the prayer in Phil. 1:9-11 with an eye toward making some changes in your praying, as well as making some changes regarding what prayers you think you need for yourself. Explain your thoughts to your group.
When you fail in the Christian life, what is your first, knee-jerk thought regarding how God views you in that moment and how you think He is going to respond or react towards you? Be honest and transparent.

Colossians 1:12

LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS

In light of what we’ve heard the last 2 weeks regarding Hupomone and Makrothumia, with joy: What do you need to do about it? What are you GOING to do about it?
In your opinion, with no commentaries or other sources before you answer…why did Paul end the prayer with this phrase: “Giving thanks to the Father…”?

Galatians 5:22-23
1 Corinthians 13:4

LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS

When was the last time you perceived the power of God in you that enabled you to do something you didn’t think you could do? Be detailed in your response.

What do you need the power of God for right now in your life? What does God want you to do that you feel completely inadequate to accomplish? Are you willing to ask Him for it? Do you want it badly enough to persist in asking Him for it? Are you willing to go and do it in spite of the fact that you feel inadequate?

Colossians 1:10

LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS

Building off of the questions from last time: Without doing any internet searching or reading any commentaries, what do YOU think it means practically speaking in your daily life to abide in Jesus?
The last phrase of Col. 1:10 says, “…and increasing in the knowledge (epignosis) of God” Is this knowledge a fruit or is it a catalyst for bearing fruit? Also, without doing any internet searching or reading any commentaries (yet) what if any, is the relationship between bearing fruit, growing in the knowledge of God, and abiding?
