This morning our Director of Operations, Jesy Littlejohn, and Board member, Shani McIlwain, worshiped at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Washington DC.
1983, in the middle of a time where the PC(USA) and the country, continued to abidate their responsibilities during the midst of the HIV and AIDS epidemic, in a time when LGBTQIA+ folks were turned away from community, from membership, and leadership within the church, we give thanks that right here in the epicenter of global politics, this church said ‘We are not like them. We believe in the fullness of the gospel. We believe that you are our neighbor and it is not just our call but it is our honor to love you.”
This congregation, under the leadership of Rev. Jeanie MacKenzie, pictured here, became the first More Light Presbyterian church in National Capital Presbyterian. Risking their reputation, their pastor, their membership and their money. They risked it all, because that was what God calls us to do.
And since, they have served as a visible testimony to what it means to be a More Light Presbyterian congregation. They openly show what it means to love radically, and what it means to work for the flourishing of creation and the liberation of all God’s people.
