There is so much to unpack in the Gospel for this 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time. First, Jesus asks His disciples who people say He is. Then, He calls upon Peter as the Church's "rock" and first pope. Finally, Jesus says, "whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven," entrusting the apostles with His authority to lead and govern His Church.

In this Sunday's Gospel, a Canaanite woman refuses to give up. Even when the road seems difficult, she continues to trust Jesus, and He responds by praising her: "O woman, great is your faith!"

Her persistence reminds us to bring our needs to the Lord with confidence, even when we don't immediately see the answer we're hoping for. God hears every prayer, and He is always at work, even when we cannot yet see it.
