By then, Archbishop Fulton Sheen was an old man. His years as one of the most famous Catholic voices in America were mostly behind him.

But when Pope John Paul II saw him, he did not simply pass by.

He went to Sheen, embraced him, and said:
👉 “You have written and spoken well of the Lord Jesus Christ. You are a loyal son of the Church.”

Imagine hearing those words near the end of your life.

For years, Fulton Sheen had preached Jesus Christ to millions. He taught the Catholic faith through television, books, sermons, and countless talks. He spent his life trying to bring souls closer to God.

And in that moment, none of the fame mattered. What mattered was that he had remained faithful. That may be the part of this story worth remembering most.

The world may forget your accomplishments. People may stop mentioning your name. The attention may move somewhere else. But God does not forget a life given to Him.

At the end of our lives, the greatest thing anyone could say about us is not that we were popular, successful, or admired. It is that we loved Jesus and remained faithful to Him.
