Today is the Feast of St. John Nepomuk.

We pray

Dear Heavenly Father, as we recount the life of your faithful servant, John of Nepomuk, please grant us the wisdom to glean lessons from his devotion and martyrdom. May his story inspire us to grow in our commitment to You. Through John of Nepomuk's intercession, we pray, Amen."

Among the multitude of saints that grace our Catholic faith, few have stories as compelling and inspiring as John of Nepomuk. The tale of this holy man's life

So Jesus said again, "Amen, amen, I say to you,
I am the gate for the sheep.
All who came before me are thieves and robbers,
but the sheep did not listen to them.
I am the gate.
Whoever enters through me will be saved,
and will come in and go out and find pasture.
A thief comes only to steal and slaughter and destroy;
I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly."
John 10:1-10

Jesus didn’t say: “Go out and live your best life.” He said: “Take up your cross and follow me.”

Jesus didn’t say, “religions are different paths to one goal; choose the one that suits you.” He said: “No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Jesus didn’t say: “Everyone has to speak their own truth.” He said: “I am the way and the truth and the life.”

Contemporary relativism often masks itself as humility. “Well, I can’t claim to know everything. So, I’ll just speak my truth.” How should a disciple respond to relativism? We must hold fast to true humility (because I don’t know everything) and fidelity (because Jesus does).

We can and should be humble. At the same time, we can and should reject relativism because we know Jesus.
