April 29th is Lag BaOmer, a day of celebration on the 33rd day of counting the Omer. To help celebrate we will be holding a virtual mixology event led by our very own Men's Club Member, David "Schenny" Schenberg.

Details:
Thursday, April 29 at 7:30pm
Limited to the first 10 registrations (please only one registration per household)
$54 to participate
https://www.bnaiamoona.com/form/men-april29

For the price of 4 overpriced drinks + tip at a bar, get the 3 magic ingredients you can add to Whiskey, Vodka or Rum to make dozens of quality cocktails at home. Schenny will host a pop-up virtual mixology demonstration on April 29th for the first 10 members who claim one of the remaining limited edition 3-packs Schenny's not so Simple Syrup. $54 gets you three 8oz bottles and simple instructions to make dozens of cocktails AND desserts. You add your favorite Rye or Bourbon, Vodka and Dark Rum to master the Old Fashioned, Mojito, Mint Julep and Dark & Stormy to get you started. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Ted Fischer Scholarship fund. Once you sign up, we will send a suggested shopping list and instructions for how to attend.

Because of the mensch that David Schenberg is, his sales of Schenny's not so Simple Syrup has already raised $22,000 for local food insecurity issues during Covid. If you miss out on this event, you can visit schenny.com to watch some how-to videos and learn where to buy Schenny's when it hits store shelves soon.

On March 16, an armed gunman killed eight people at multiple massage parlors and spas around Atlanta. While the motive is not fully clear, it is likely the suspect targeted women of Asian descent in a mass shooting spree.

According to police department crime data, hate crimes directed at the Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community have increased 150% in major U.S. cities. And since last March, there have been 3,800 reported incidents of hate crimes targeting Asian-Americans nationwide, many directed at Asian-American elders.

These horrific attacks are not isolated incidents. They flow from the same toxic pool of xenophobia, racism, and white supremacy that led to the hate-fueled murders in Charlottesville, Charleston, Pittsburgh, El Paso, and too many other communities.

The wrongful scapegoating of Asian-Americans during the pandemic has caused deep pain and anxiety among Asian-American communities, which includes Jewish Asian-Americans. We call on our leaders and members to speak out against all these forms of prejudice and provide shelter and resources for anyone threatened by hate and violence.

As we are taught in Leviticus 19:16, lo ta'amod al dam re'eikha, do not stand idly by the blood of your neighbor. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all members of the AAPI community, their families, friends, and loved ones. May the memories of those who were killed be a blessing, as we work together to end racism, hate, and violence.

A Special Invitation from Men's Club President, Kevin Litt:

One of the great honors of being President of the B'nai Amoona Men’s Club is presenting the Man of the Year, Youth of the Year, and Medallion Awards. This Shabbat, March 20, we will be honoring Mark Givarz as our Man of the Year, Leetal Cohn as our Youth of the Year, and our two Medallion Award recipients, Madeleine Ryan and Charlie Rosenzweig. All of our recipients have sacrificed their time to strengthen the Jewish people, Congregation B’nai Amoona, and our St. Louis community.

Please join us, virtually or in person, during Men’s Club Shabbat this Saturday morning to help celebrate these very deserving congregants. If you would like to make a donation to the Ted Fischer Fund in the honor of any or all of our award recipients, please click the link below or call Gail Armstrong at 314-576-9990 x126 or email [email protected].
