Elijah told King Ahab to send the prophets of Ball to Mt. Carmel. Elijah asked the prophets to call on their god to send fire to burn up a sacrifice. They cried and prayed and danced, but nothing happened. Elijah prepared his altar and even drenched it with water. He prayed to God, and the Lord sent down fire, burning up the sacrifice and everything around it. God showed all of the people that He was the one true God.
When Elijah called out to Him, God answered in power. God is real and He loves us so much that He provided one way for our sins to be forgiven. He sent His Son, Jesus to die for us. When we pray to Jesus and ask Him to forgive us, He answers us powerfully. he forgives our sins and makes our relationship right with the one true God.

Saul was still king of Israel, but God had anointed David to replace him. Saul brought David to live in his house. Saul’s son Jonathan and David became best friends and promised to always take care of each other. Saul grew very jealous of David and tried to kill him multiple times. David and Jonathan made a plan to figure out if Saul truly intended to harm David. Jonathan helped David escape. Jonathan was a good friend to David even though that meant he would never be the king himself.
Not only was David the king of Israel, but God promised him that the throne would always belong to his family. One day one of his descendants would be forever King who would always be on the throne. That descendant was Jesus. God’s perfect plan was to send Jesus to rescue us from our sins.

More than anything else, Hannah wanted a baby. She prayed fervently to the Lord, promising that if He gave her a child, she would dedicate the child to God’s service forever. Hannah gave birth to Samuel. She kept her word and left him with Eli, the high priest, to serve in the temple. God called out to Samuel, but Samuel didn’t know it was Him. After several times, Eli told Samuel to respond to God. God raised up Samuel to be a prophet for all of Israel.
Jesus’s whole ministry on Earth showed that God cares for His people. Jesus healed many people, helping those who were sick or couldn’t walk or couldn’t see. He wept with His friends were sad because their brother Lazarus died. He reached out to people who were ignored in His society. Jesus showed that God cares about our hurt and provides for us. Most of all. Jesus showed how much God cares for us by sacrificing Himself for our sins.

Deborah was a judge in Israel. Because of their disobedience, Israel had been taken over by the king of Canaan and his general, Sisera. Deborah told Barak to go and fight them, but Barak insisted that Deborah had to come too. The Lord caused the Canaanite army to panic, but Sizer escaped and hid in a tent. A woman named Jael killed him with a tent peg. The Lord was victorious.
God was victorious in the battle and the Israelites were free. But their freedom didn’t last. Soon they turned back to their evil ways and were oppressed by another enemy. The Israelities had a much bigger problem than enemy kings. In fact, we all have the same problem. We all sin and rebel against God. The good news is that God is victorious over our sin as well. We can’t do anything to make our sin better. But Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment for our sin. He rose from the dead, defeating death and sin forever!

The Israelites, led by Joshua, conquered Canaanite cities as God has promised. When several kings attacked a city named Gibeon, Joshua came to help. God told him not to fear and promised victory. Joshua prayed for the sun to stand still, and God answered, giving them more time to fight. The Israelites defeated their enemies, conquered more land, and Joshua divided it among the twelve tribes. The Promised Land became theirs, just as God said. Throughout the Old Testament, God promised hundreds of times that He would send a Rescuer who would save the people from their sin. God kept His promise by sending Jesus, a descendant of Abraham, to Earth to die on the cross for our sins. God promises that when we trust in Jesus for forgiveness of our sins, we will live forever with Him. He always does what He says.
