Happy Resurrection Sunday!

Today we celebrate the event that quite literally changed everything. It was on this day about 2,000 years ago that Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of God, the son of David was spewed out of the belly of the tomb as a sign after the pattern of Jonah (Matt 12:40). And just like Jonah sang his Hallelujah song in the belly of the beast, the Hallelujah song of Jesus shook the very depths of Sheol and thereby forced it to spew out the Seed it couldn’t hold.

The beating and death of Jesus secured our healing and forgiveness, but it was this “third” day that taught us something much greater. It was the resurrection of Jesus, the event upon which the gospel totally hinges, that taught each and every one of us how to LIVE. Jesus never expected us to be baptized into His death and burial without also showing us what it looks like to live our resurrected best lives in Him (Rom 6:5)! Just like Jesus, death couldn’t hold you!

Now what? The only items left in the tomb were the grave clothes of Jesus...the wrappings that were on His body and the cloth that covered His face. It is certainly noteworthy that the cloth that covered His face was folded, symbolizing that the work of Jesus was indeed finished. It’s also noteworthy that the wrappings of His body, symbolizing the corporate body of Christ, were unwrapped. Friends, the work of Jesus is finished...but our “unwrapped” work as His glorious church continues!

It’s time to celebrate! It’s time to be the expression of the resurrected Christ in the earth!

Today we observe Silent Saturday, but how silent was it?

Silent Saturday is the day between the crucifixion and the resurrection, but it was anything but silent! At surface level the wind had been knocked out of the disciples and their fear drove them into hiding. Everything appeared to be at a stand still...the man who healed the sick, loved the sinner, and challenged the established religious norm was gone. Even though the world was paralyzed above ground, revival was happening under the surface!

Jesus descended into Sheol and claimed the keys of death and Sheol (Rev. 1:17-18), He proclaimed the gospel concerning Himself to those held captive by the grave (1 Pet. 3:19-20 & 1 Pet. 4:6), He then cleared out Sheol and the grave and put a "closed for business" sign over its entrance (Eph. 4:8). The Saturday between death and resurrection was a party for the ages!

Jesus was NOT fighting the devil (1 John 3:8), being tormented in Sheol (1 Cor. 15:55-57), or appeasing the requirements of His Father so we could finally be spared His wrath and judgment (2 Cor. 5:19)! While Jesus is accomplishing some of the most mystical and profound works of all time, the earth is beginning to become nauseated because it had pure life buried inside it.

Sunday is coming and the grave is beginning to realize that it can't kill the seed...

Today we observe GOOD FRIDAY, but what made it good?

The surface of the crucifixion event was terribly ugly, violent, unjust, brutal, and deadly...but as soon we scratch the surface of this horrible event, we find the most beautiful act humanity has ever witnessed! We find God (in Christ) reconciling the world to Himself (2 Cor. 5:19), Jesus dealing the death blow to the Old Covenant (the law) and bringing the Better Covenant into view (Heb. 8:13), birthing the Church from His heart (John 19:34), dealing with the sin issue (1 Cor. 15:56-57), and revealing what God had ALWAYS BEEN LIKE (John 6:46).

Jesus wasn't defending us from His violent Dad! Through the self-sacrificial image of Christ, we see God purely for Who He has always been...totally free of all the misconceptions that fallen humanity had assigned to His nature and attributed to His character. Good Friday is good for many reasons, but getting to finally behold God clearly has to be one of the best "good" things that happened.

- Holy Thursday

Thursday slows everything down. The noise fades. The crowds thin. And Jesus gathers with His friends… one last time.

No platform. No spectacle. Just a table.

Bread. Wine. Presence.

And then, He does something no one expected. He takes off His outer garment, wraps a towel around His waist…and kneels. The One they called Lord…washing feet. Dust-covered. Road-worn. Human feet.

Even Judas’. Don’t miss that.

Jesus knew who would betray Him…and still knelt before him. Because this is what God is like. Not demanding to be served, but choosing to serve. Not exposing weakness, but meeting it with love. Not withholding Himself, but giving Himself fully.

Holy Thursday confronts every power structure we’ve ever believed in. Because in the Kingdom, greatness doesn’t look like control. It looks like a towel and a basin.

And then He breaks the bread. “This is My body… given for you.” Not taken. Not demanded. Given.

And the cup, “This is My blood…”Not a payment to change God’s mind, but a revelation of God’s heart. Self-giving. Other-centered. Unrelenting love.

This is not a God who needs sacrifice, this is a God who becomes it. And He invites us into it.

“Do this in remembrance of Me.” Not just the meal—the way. The laying down of power. The refusal to dominate. The choice to love, even when it costs.

Holy Thursday reminds us: The Kingdom doesn’t come through force. It comes through surrender. Through humility. Through union. Through love that kneels.

And if you want to know what God is like…look at the One with the towel in His hands.
