Just A Friendly Request To Please Respect Historic Gulf Cemetery’s Grounds

Gulf Cemetery is a historic resting place for reflection and remembrance of loved ones. There has recently been an increase in visitors letting their dogs run freely on the grounds and using our planters along Highway 393 to dispose of their pet refuse bags.

While we welcome all visitors, it is extremely disrespectful to allow dogs to roam freely, urinating and defecating at random, sometimes even on burial sites.

You may be unaware that desecrating the grounds of a cemetery is a felony in the State of Florida. We have taken measures to increase surveillance of the cemetery grounds and will not hesitate to prosecute individuals who continue to be so disrespectful.

If you witness someone allowing their dogs to run freely within the grounds, please contact Walton County Animal Control immediately at (850) 892-8682. We appreciate your understanding and support in upholding the dignity of Historic Gulf Cemetery. Thank you for helping us preserve this beautiful resting place.
