Episcopal Diocese of California

Episcopal Diocese of California A Christian community of Episcopal congregations and organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Episcopal Diocese of California seeks to enter a new era of the Church’s life emphasizing mission, diversity and collaboration. We believe The Episcopal Church has a charism, a gift, to be a generous form of Christianity. The Diocese of California has embraced the vision put forth a hundred years ago by the Fellowship of Reconciliation, later espoused by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., t

hat we should manifest β€œthe beloved community” – the living out of our essential interrelatedness in Christ.

Today we celebrate Trinity Sunday, honoring the nature of the one God: Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.

Theologians, artists, poets, and hymn writers have tried to capture this divine mystery throughout the centuries, yet none can fully encapsulate God's essence. Every contribution of sacred art, music, and theology is an echo of a great truth, guiding us towards a greater understanding of the divine mystery we have each been baptized into with the familiar words: β€œI baptize you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

May you have a blessed Trinity Sunday!

Today we remember those who lost their lives in military service, and we hold in prayer all who carry the lasting wounds of war and service β€” physical, emotional, and spiritual. We also pray for the loved ones who grieve, and for all who continue to serve.

This day remembers and acknowledges loss and so do we remember those whom we have loved and lost. We hold their names and their faces in our mind's eye. We recall the gifts they gave to us through the strength of their being, the depth of their love, the courage of their dying, and the fullness of their living.

On this Pentecost Sunday, we commemorate the empowering and transformative gift of the Holy Spirit. May the Spirit's flame ignite our hearts, bring unity amidst diversity, and empower us to be agents of change for justice, equality, and the inherent dignity of all.

From the Book of Common Prayer:
Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
