Some awesome choristers and Mr. Pharo are having a great time at the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) West summer course in Tacoma this week. The music director is our own Dr. Johnson! Today they're exploring Seattle and will be singing Evensong at the grand St. Mark's Cathedral. Thanks to the course managers Astrid and Christopher Caruso-Lynch for such a wonderful opportunity.

Join us next week at Thursday Evensong, Sunday Eucharist, and a rare summer Sunday Evensong!

We are delighted to welcome the choir of Trinity Cathedral, Columbia, South Carolina, to Grace Cathedral as part of their tour of the West Coast. They will sing for three services at Grace Cathedral, July 16-19:

Thursday, July 16, at 5:30 pm: Choral Evensong, sung jointly with the Men of the Grace Cathedral Choir | Music of Brian Kelly, Ned Rorem, and Käthe Wright Kaufman

Sunday, July 19, at 11 am: Choral Eucharist, sung jointly with the Men of the Grace Cathedral Choir | Music of Jean Langlais, Jonathan Dove, and Judith Weir

Sunday, July 19, at 4 pm: Choral Evensong
The Choir of Trinity Cathedral, SC | Music of Jared Johnson, Joanna Forbes L’Estrange, and Hubert Parry

The Choir of Trinity Cathedral is led by Paul Thomas, Director of Music and Organist, and Käthe Wright Kaufman, Associate Director of Music. Before coming to Grace Cathedral, Jared Johnson served Trinity Cathedral as Canon Director of Music for twenty years.

Exciting news!

Grace Cathedral is excited to call Canon Stephen Buzard as our next Director of Music. Mr. Buzard has years of experience building choir and chorister programs as Director of Music at St. James Cathedral, Chicago, and directing choirs at St. Thomas Fifth Avenue, New York City. He is also an acclaimed concert organist. A graduate of the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, he trained as an organ scholar at Trinity-on-the-Green, New Haven; Wells Cathedral in the UK; and Trinity Church, Princeton. He and his wife, Katie, plan to join the Grace Cathedral community beginning August 1. Watch for more details with our upcoming Congregation Update this Friday, July 3.
