What do we mean when we say “heaven”?
In this Easter Sunday sermon from Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, Malcolm Clemens Young explores a deeper, richer vision of heaven—not as a distant place we go someday, but as God’s dimension breaking into our world here and now.

What does Hosanna mean?

Each Palm Sunday, we lift our voices and say, “Hosanna in the highest.” But Hosanna is not originally a shout of joy. It is a plea—a cry that means, “Save us now.”

This sermon traces that cry through Scripture and into our own lives: from its first echoes in Psalm 118, to the crowds welcoming Jesus in Matthew’s Gospel, to the ways we still call out for help today. In an age shaped by uncertainty, conflict, and frayed trust, Hosanna becomes more than an ancient word. It becomes our own prayer for God’s saving presence.

It was so great to have Rebecca Solnit here on Sunday. A couple of hundred of her other fans were here to listen to her ideas about the massive political backlash we are experienceing. She believes that the big picture for human justice and environmental thriving is positive despite the difficult headlines.

As white nationalist and authoritarian movements lean toward isolation and individualism, other forces continue to gain momentum. Antiracism, feminism, expan...

Who are you? Do you know?”

On the First Sunday of Lent, we confront the wilderness—not as a place of punishment, but of clarity. The most dangerous word in the Bible is two words long. It is “IF.”

We are tempted not by what is but by what could be.

Jesus’ temptations are not about bread, angels, or political power. They are about identity. They are about whether he will trust that he is God’s beloved Son.

This sermon from Grace Cathedral in San Francisco explores:
• Why satisfying desire never satisfies
•Why we secretly want God to make exceptions for us
•The way achievement culture tempts us to measure our worth
•And how Lent invites us back to our true home in God

The devil’s voice still whispers “If…” But Christ gives us back to ourselves.
