What does Hosanna mean?

Each Palm Sunday, we lift our voices and say, “Hosanna in the highest.” But Hosanna is not originally a shout of joy. It is a plea—a cry that means, “Save us now.”

This sermon traces that cry through Scripture and into our own lives: from its first echoes in Psalm 118, to the crowds welcoming Jesus in Matthew’s Gospel, to the ways we still call out for help today.
