The San Francisco Interfaith Council (SFIC) stands in solidarity with our Muslim sisters and brothers as they seek to recover from the trauma of the horrific incident in San Diego, where a mosque was targeted and several people lost their lives, including a security officer who was protecting the site. We join in condemning this senseless act of hate and violence targeting the Muslim community alongside the increasing Islamophobia we've seen in our nation.
As we await more information, the SFIC’s constituent 800 communities of faith and religious institutions extend their prayers and encourage local law enforcement to increase their vigilance so that all Muslims feel safer and supported.
This incident may be geographically distant, yet the fear and impact of this attack is shared here at home with us. Islamophobia has no place in the City and County of San Francisco, where every Muslim community member deserves to feel safe at their place of worship, school, community center and everywhere.
