Let us pray:
Gracious God,
you filled the heart of St Rose
with charity and missionary zeal,
and gave her the desire
to make you known among all peoples.
Fill us who honour her memory today,
with that same love and zeal
to extend your kingdom to the ends of the earth.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever. Amen.

August 22 The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary (New).

On the Liturgical Calendar on August 22 we celebrate both the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Traditional Calendar) and the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary (New Calendar).
Pope Pius XII established this feast in 1954, but Mary’s queenship has roots in Scripture. At the Annunciation, Gabriel announced that Mary’s Son would receive the throne of David and rule forever. At the Visitation, Elizabeth calls Mary “mother of my Lord.” As in all the mysteries of Mary’s life, she is closely associated with Jesus: Her queenship is a share in Jesus’ kingship. We can also recall that in the Old Testament the mother of the king has great influence in court.
In the fourth century Saint Ephrem called Mary “Lady” and “Queen.” Later Church fathers and doctors continued to use the title.
Pope Pius XII said, "The purpose of the Feast is that all may recognize more clearly and venerate more devoutly the merciful and motherly sovereignty of her who bore God in her womb." On the day of her Assumption, Mary was solemnly crowned by Christ and received by the whole court of Heaven as Queen.

Prayer to Our Lady of Knock
Our Lady of Knock, Queen of Ireland, you gave hope to your people in a time of distress and comforted them in sorrow. You have inspired countless pilgrims to pray with confidence to your
divine Son, remembering His promise,
“Ask, and you shall receive; seek, and you shall find.”
Help me to remember that we are all pilgrims on the road to Heaven. Fill me with love and concern for my brothers and sisters in Christ, especially those who live with me.
Comfort me when I am sick, lonely, or depressed. Teach me how to take part ever more reverently in the Holy Mass. Give me a greater love of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
Pray for me now and at the hour of my death. Amen

Prayer for Families
St. Maximilian Kolbe, you gave your life so that a family might not be deprived of a husband and father. By your heroic martyrdom of charity, teach us that the value of family life is worth our sacrifices also. Just as you found in Mary the channel of those graces that strengthened you to be faithful to her Son, help us to rejoice also in her who was given to us as a mother by Jesus from the cross. Be with us, St. Maximilian, as we pray for the special needs of our family (Say petitions here). Amen.
