An amazing discussion about how metaphor and writing works. How to let language and impulse carry you.

Last Sunday I posted a quote by Lucille Clifton on Instagram ( ), so I guess we’ll keep following this vein.

“Let’s see if I can teach this in a thread before my 5:30 appointment. Every metaphor is made up of two parts: the tenor & the vehicle, as in “the linebacker was a bear.” The linebacker is the tenor & the bear the vehicle... https://t.co/TAdEcMP1mW”

How is it going?

I'm breaking the rules (it's allowed) because I'm working on a script that I started writing two years ago and want to finish this year. I'm using this month to push it into a rough draft. I only managed to get on day to write this week (which is not how I expected this would go). My goal for the week is to carve out time during the weekday mornings to write and then put them on the calendar so that the time isn't viewed as free any more.

Let me know what you're working on and whether it's a brand new script or something that you've been working on for awhile. What is going well for you and what are your challenges? What are your goals for this week?

THE RULES of NAPLWRIMO
These are the original rules. Handed down by our founder Dorothy Lemoult. If you want to do the full on write a play in November experience, then this is what you do:

1. Start writing at 12:00am on November 1st. *Not* before.

2. Stop writing by November 30th at 11:59pm at the latest.

3. Write a brand new play ( no screenplays) ; ie: you can not work on a previously started draft.

4. Must be at least 75 pages. (standard script format, 12 point font).

5. Write it all by yourself.

6. Check in weekly and report your progress by Sunday of each week. I’ll post a check here on Facebook. We believe that those who report to their community have more chances of finishing and of staying in the challenge.

Yes, these are the rules. Yes, we made them up. No, we can’t make you follow them. Yes, your integrity will be intact if you don’t. Again, no screenplays sorry. Musicals are okay. Yay, musicals!
