The Episcopal Mission in Sunnyside

The Episcopal Mission in Sunnyside We are a new, progressive community of life-giving practice in the Christian tradition.

In our own lives and in Sunnyside, we see "things that have been cast down being raised up, and things which have grown old being made new."

This Sunday morning (August 23)—there's no church!

Instead, from 10am - noon, join us and our cherished partners for a ***watery watercolor Process Art workshop.***

Using liquid watercolor, string, binding rings, brushes, pipettes, and water, participants of all ages are invited to drip, paint, layer, connect, and see what happens. We'll be observing shadows and light to help us inform our work.

All ages are welcome, and this is totally free. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little paint on!

If you're wondering where our culture of curiosity, experimentation, and embracing imperfection comes from—these intergenerational gatherings for Process Art have been a big part of that. We started these experiments in intergenerational Process Art back in 2024, and since then we've been learning from Ari and Cristina of Citation Needed about focusing on process over results, embracing surprise, and letting the curiosity and creativity of children lead us.

So if you've been curious about this church but are nervous about "church" (and there are lots of good reasons for that!)—come get messy with your neighbors!

Thursday mornings from 9:30-11am, we have a drop-in gathering on Zoom where we can do some of life’s challenging administrative tasks in the context of a supportive community.

We take inspiration here from the practice of “body doubling” among folks with ADHD. Having partners—even virtually—can help all of us follow through on what needs doing, and can make that work a lot less lonely.

At the start of each session, we introduce ourselves, share how we’re doing and what’s on our to-do list. Then we each work on our stuff, on mute, until a few minutes before the end of the session, when we’ll come off mute, share with each other what we’ve accomplished, and celebrate the progress we’ve made.

Thanks to Hugh Klitzke, who has volunteered to host these Thursday morning sessions! Learn more at the link in the bio...

Join us Tuesday, July 28th at 7:30pm for another edition of ICED COFFEE HOUR!

This is a space where queerness is cherished as a spiritual gift, and where our spirituality informs our queerness. It’s part social-hour, part reflection group, part prayer circle. Founded and hosted by our own Spence Moore (she/her ), this space is big enough for ambivalence, big feelings, and hot takes.

You are welcome here!

PICNIC!! On Sunday, June 28th at 5pm, join us for a celebration of PRIDE and summer in the garden at All Saints Church (43-12 46th St.) Bring a snack or a dish to pass: we'll have plates, cups, and cutlery...

Though the day and time are different than usual, the same spirit holds as our normal gatherings for Iced Coffee Hour: we go deep, we laugh our heads off, we connect in meaningful ways at the place where queerness and spirituality nourish each other.

You are welcome, all are welcome—bring a friend!

This Sunday at 5pm we’ll gather for our last Sunday Circle before we take a summer hiatus.

We’ll use our usual format from restorative justice circles to reflect on what this group means to us, and how we might deepen our practice and broaden our community in the fall.

You are welcome here!

It's going to cool off a bit this weekend—let's get our hands dirty! Join us this Saturday, June 13 as we prune back our native plant garden, spread soil, and tend to the annuals we planted last time.

We'll have bagels, gloves, and tools—come meet some new friends!

The Sunday Circle is BACK after a hiatus in May.

This week, we'll be listening to one another—and to our own hearts—around the topics of pride and humility.

Are you good at taking credit for what you've done? Are you comfortable taking up space as your full, authentic self? Where did you learn to be loud and proud, or to make yourself small? What would it feel like to be “right-sized?”

YOU are welcome here: we sit in a circle in the sanctuary for an hour, and it is sacred time.

We had a blast at Sunday's Family Music Jubilee with Alyssa Yuge and Alec Manasse!
(follow them at and )

We all felt some BIG FEELINGS with Mozart, Shubert, Darth Vader, the Pink Panther and more! Alyssa and Alec even invited our intergenerational audience to try their instruments!

It's such a joy to showcase the amazing talent of local musicians for audiences of kids and adults—and we'll be back again on May 17 with for some prohibition-era jazz with Miss Maybell and her Ragtime Romeos! Hope to see you there!
