Questioning as a Part of Faith

On the Second Sunday of Easter, Father Fred preaches about Thomas the Apostle, often referred to as Doubting Thomas who wanted evidence in order to believe. This questioning is a genuine part of faith, Father Fred says, and is the norm in the thinking church—as the Episcopal Church is often called—where we accept progress, science, and change as evidence of God’s greatness. God Sees What Others Miss

On the fourth Sunday of Lent, The Rev. Deacon Paula Kong-Sinclair delivers a sermon about the blind man whom Jesus healed and the anointing of David by the prophet Samuel. God, she says, “sees what others miss.” We must learn to start seeing the way God does—looking beyond the surface and beyond appearances to the person or situation clearly. She discusses how appropriate this message is considering the continued presence of racism, bigotry, and misogyny.
