A Sofer (scribe) visited Beth Menachem Chabad of Newton today to check our mezuzot!

🤔Did you know? Every mezuzah is a scroll with the Shema handwritten by a Sofer with a special quill and ink on kosher parchment, in 22 lines. If even one letter is missing, cracked or touching another, the mezuzah is no longer kosher.

A mezuzah should be checked by a Sofer twice every seven years. On the back of every mezuzah is G-d’s name Sha-dai, which stands for “Guardian of the doors of Israel” 🚪

When was yours last checked? Reach out to us and we’ll help!

Our Sukkot Musical Tot Shabbat & Challah Bake was one to remember.

We started off with our usual challah, then headed out to the sukkah to keep singing, dancing and moving. With lulav and etrog in hand, the kids filled the sukkah with so much joy. 🎉

There’s something really special about watching little ones experience the holiday with their whole bodies and hearts, side by side with their parents, grandparents and caregivers. Moments like these are what it’s all about 💛

Thank you to every family who joined us! Musical Tot Shabbat & Challah Bake runs weekly on Friday mornings, hosted by Jewish Creative Preschool and Beth Menachem Chabad of Newton . We’d love to see you there’

A little look at our Sukkot setup for our Young Jewish Professionals before the holiday began!

Dozens of young Jewish professionals came together as a community for a beautiful Sukkot Shabbat dinner under the stars, with good food, great company, and lots of Jewish connection.

We’ve been building this community through smaller gatherings, and we’re excited to open the doors wider and bring even more young Jewish adults together in Newton.

Rabbi Shalom Ber Prus opened the October 7 gathering at the Newton Centre Green with a prayer, remembering the special souls whose lives were taken.

Now let us live for them.
To do more mitzvot for them.
To live louder and prouder as Jews.
To carry their memory forward through the way we live.
Am Yisrael Chai!

Join us for this holiday of celebration, joy, dancing and togetherness as we celebrate the Torah and the blessings we have been given. Simchat Torah!

This year, we can feel especially grateful and happy to celebrate. We witnessed the miraculous outcome of the Flydubai flight FZ1073 this week, and today, on the Hebrew calendar, we mark one year since the last remaining hostages in Gaza were released.

There is so much to be grateful for.

Today, Sunday, was the first day this year that we could do the mitzvah of shaking the Lulav and Etrog for Sukkot! 🌿🍋

Last week, community members came by Beth Menachem Chabad to choose their own Lulav and Etrog for the holiday.

If you don’t have one, please come by and we’ll help you do the mitzvah. It takes less than a minute to shake and celebrate Sukkot!

Chag Sameach! Happy Sukkot!
