Join us for our September series, “Greek to Me”! You’re invited to join us each Sunday in September as we explore Scripture through the lens of Greek myths and language by looking at words shared between some of our most famous myths and the Bible!

September 6th - The Odyssey and philoxenia / hospitality
September 13th - Orpheus and Euridice and distazō vs. dementia (doubt vs. madness)
September 10th - Sisyphus and mataiotēs/ groaning and futility
September 27th - Pandora and elpis / hope

Invite your friends, especially if they were obsessed with the Odyssey this summer or are really into Hadestown!

Are you looking for new, original, soul-filling music? Do you want to help the UMC grow with diverse leadership? Are you free August 29th? We hope you'll join us at Life in the City UMC on Saturday, August 29th at 7pm for a night of original music by Abi Robins and the Life in the City Band!

Abi is a q***r, trans, and nonbinary author, teacher, and coach who is following God's call on their life to pursue ministry full-time. They will be starting their ordination process at our Ordination Summit in San Antonio this month as well as beginning their seminary journey at Perkins School of Theology at SMU. Abi has also been writing original music for Life in the City Services for the past year and will be sharing these and many more tunes at this special night of music and fellowship.

All proceeds from ticket sales go to support Abi as they pay for school and other life expenses related to this journey. You can buy tickets or donate directly to Abi's education here:

There are songs you perform. And then there are songs you carry in your heart.

This past week, the LITC band had the honor of sharing “Ice on the Road” by Pynk Beard (performed with his permission), in dedication to the memory of Lorenzo and Johan Sebastián, and to the families and communities impacted by immigration enforcement.

As a band that includes Black and Brown voices, this song is deeply personal to us. At Life in the City, we share a belief in the sacred worth of every human being and that every person deserves dignity, safety, and the chance to live without fear.

Thank you, Pynk Beard, for writing a song that gives voice to grief, compassion, and hope. We’re grateful to share it with your blessing.

May this be more than a performance. May it be a reminder that faith calls us to stand with the vulnerable, mourn with those who mourn, and keep working toward a world where love is louder than fear.

✨ Exciting news for our Life in the City family! ✨

Please join us in welcoming Rev. Thomas Hankins as the new Lead Pastor of Life in the City UMC, beginning July 1.

Pastor Thomas brings a heart for justice, liberation, deep faith, and community, along with experience serving churches, healthcare ministries, and hospitals across Texas and beyond. His ministry is rooted in helping people know just how deeply loved they are by God and in creating spaces where all people can experience the fullness of life found in Christ.

And…..he’s also an unapologetic theology and history nerd, wildlife photographer, hiker, yoga enthusiast, National Parks adventurer (25 down, 38 to go!), University of Tennessee fan, and proud cat dad to Arya. 🐾

We are grateful for this new chapter and excited for the ways God will continue to move in and through our church community.

📅 Make plans to join us on Sunday, July 5, for Pastor Thomas’s first Sunday in the pulpit. We’d love to surround him with the LITC spirit as we welcome him into the community! Stay tuned for the date of our Pastor Thomas meet-and-greet!

Welcome to Austin, Pastor Thomas! 💜

Well, it’s happened again. 9 months later, Life in the City is once again facing hateful rhetoric directed at our place of worship.

Let us be clear: hate has absolutely no place in our sanctuary.

LITC is steadfast in its committment to standing with the LGBTQIA+ community and all marginalized communities today and always. We will continue to be a light in the darkness.
