Jubilee

Jubilee This page serves as a journal of how Jubilee was established at Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church in Wimberley.

May the Lord guide you in discerning how you may be able to glorify His name in your community! "We proclaim not ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for his sake." 2 Corinthians 4:5

Jubilee Fifteen helps Barton Middle School sow seeds of change... The school's greenhouse was lying unused and without funds to get it functioning again. Saint Stephen's Jubilee team cleaned out the w**ds and debris, laid down w**d blocking fabric and 2" of composted granite. Polycarbonate greenhouse panels were replaced as well. Finally, the school's front landscape was w**ded and beautified.

Jubilee engages the whole of Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church in following Christ by serving our neighbors through prayer and work, without condition or expectation of repayment.

The idea of Jubilee was established in Israel as part of the cycle of Sabbath time. Every seventh year was a Sabbath year, and every seventh Sabbath year plus one, was a Jubilee - a time when fields and vines were rested, slaves were freed, and encumbrances were removed from land. When Jesus came, he proclaimed that the great Jubilee had come. All are freed from tyranny, oppression, poverty, and hunger.

Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church is determined to share in the Jubilee by stopping our normal activities every seventh week. We set aside time to break the bonds of poverty and despair in our communities and abroad, working to help those who cannot serve us in return, bringing the love and peace of Christ into a broken world. It is our hope to serve as a sign and an outpost of the Kingdom of Heaven in our own time and place.

Jubilee Fourteen lends a helping hand to a community neighbor. Volunteers and parishioners helped to remove much debris from around their yard, perform much needed yard maintenance, and rebuild an unsafe front porch.

Jubilee Thirteen returns to the Crisis Bread Basket to restock and refresh. Parishioners and volunteers once again made soup (Chicken Soup for the Holy Spirit) while others worked to give the building a much needed facelift. Across town, more parishioners and volunteers worked to prepare nourishing baskets for delivery to those Jubilee has served in the past, as well as others in need. These goodies were prepared in advance and donated in the days prior to Jubilee.

Jubilee Twelve - Our third Celebration of Giving Free Sale reaches out to over 100 adults and 50 children who are able to come and receive much needed items, free of charge, in a comfortable market type atmosphere. The rain challenged parishioners and volunteers but, through their example, it soon became crystal clear that there is no stopping Christ's love in action!

CHRISTIANITY WEATHERS ALL STORMS!

Jubilee Eleven - Saint Stephen's attends to the home construction needs of a neighbor in Wimberley, Texas. These neighbors have been building their home made home as they were able, but illness and disability have wrought obstacles to the home completion. Saint Stephen's hears Christ calling to serve our neighbor and works to close in portions of the house, as well as working to clear the land of debris that had accumulated since the illness and disability had progressed. Just down the road, more parishioners and volunteers work to resupply Crisis Bread Basket with firewood.
