Butler Street CME A Friendly Church with a Personal Touch! The Colored Methodist Episcopal Church was organized by Rev. S.E. Poe in 1852. The John L. Drive) and Coca Cola Place. A. J.

Grant Estate donated property located on the corner of Butler Street (now known as Jesse Hill Jr. A wooden frame structure was torn down to make possible the er****on of the present church when Rev. Stinson was pastor. The church became known as Butler Street Colored Methodist Episcopal Church. A new church was built in 1920 on this site under the leadership of Rev. H. W. Evans. While the church w

as being built, the Butler Street family held joint worship service with Holsey Temple C.M.E. Church. In 1954 The General Conference changed the name “colored” to Christian. It is now known as Butler Street Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. Butler Street C.M.E. continues to grow and prosper in the faith and program development. Many memorable contributions were made under the following pastoral leaderships. Butler Street Church has always been known for many lay persons who have made outstanding contributions to our church, city and nation.
