Last night in Chihuahua, Mexico, the Archivo e Historia CANCEN Rev. Edgar Avitia Legarda, supported by Global Ministries and donations to the Advance, celebrated its inauguration.

The Rev. Avitia Legarda led the Global Mission Relationships unit of Global Ministries for two decades up until his sudden passing in 2023, developing and nurturing collaborative relationships with Methodist leaders across Central and Latin America. He was deeply passionate about and knowledgeable on the history, scope, and impact of Methodism in Mexico and the southwestern U.S., and the establishment of the Archivo e Historia CANCEN celebrates his legacy and ensures the long history of the Methodist Church of Mexico is preserved for future generations.

As hunger and economic uncertainty increase in families across the U.S. in 2026, Global Ministries is relaunching the Feeding Our Neighbors initiative, with applications accepted from United Methodist annual conferences rather than local congregations.

The revised structure is intended to streamline administration while ensuring broader geographic distribution of resources and stronger coordination of efforts. Annual conferences are encouraged to prioritize support for both rural and urban congregations operating established food pantries and feeding ministries within local churches.

Annual conferences in the U.S. seeking to participate in the program can learn more and apply between June 1 and July 31, 2026: https://bit.ly/4x5INJh

Join us in prayer for those affected by the Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and South Sudan.

With over 600 cases reported and over 200 suspected deaths so far, this strain of the virus, which has no vaccine, is rapidly spreading across a region already suffering from conflict and lack of healthcare access.

In response, Global Ministries' Global Health Unit is deploying an initial grant of $20,000 to the United Methodist East Congo Health Board to support critical frontline interventions in and around the 10 UMC health facilities in Ituri Province, DRC, including:
-Infection prevention and control, including the distribution of handwashing kits
-Provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe case management training for healthcare workers in the UMC health facilities
-Provision of essential medication to UMC health facilities in the region

What can you do to help?
🛐 Pray for those impacted, especially those who have lost loved ones and the responding medical professionals.

As students across the U.S. face greater financial pressure due to cuts to student support programs, new grants from Global Ministries and Higher Education and Ministry will help United Methodist-related colleges and universities provide food and essential supplies to their students.

Applications will open on June 1 and close on August 31. Grant information will be sent directly to campus ministers and campus contacts at these schools.

“By strengthening campus pantries and support services, these grants help our schools create communities where every student is seen, supported and able to thrive.” — Dr. Dana Lyles, executive director of Multiethnic Ministries for Global Ministries and Higher Education and Ministry

In rural Cochise County, Arizona, Chiricahua Community Health Centers, Inc. are caring for more than the health needs of their patients. ❤️

Along with doctors, nurses and other medical personnel, Chiricahua has a staff of Care Coordinators, who connect Chiricahua's primarily low-income and uninsured patients with solutions to the barriers that prevent them from receiving care, generating better health outcomes throughout the community.

As Chiricahua was searching for ways to fill a funding gap caused by the loss of federal grants last year, Global Ministries stepped in. A grant through our This Moment Matters initiative is supporting Chiricahua as they continue to care for Cochise County's growing uninsured and underserved population.
