The Southern Christian Leadership Conference honors the life and legacy of Clarence B. Jones, a trusted confidant, attorney, strategist, and speechwriter for Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Jones helped plan the historic March on Washington and drafted part of Dr. King’s legendary “I Have a Dream” speech. As a brilliant legal mind and courageous organizer, he helped defend civil rights leaders, raise support for SCLC, and protect the movement during one of the most important chapters in American history.
His work strengthened the fight for justice, equality, freedom of the press, and human dignity. SCLC remembers Clarence B. Jones with deep gratitude and respect.
Rest in power, Clarence B. Jones.
