As America approaches its 250th anniversary, join Interfaith America and Ebenezer Baptist Church for an important conversation on the enduring witness, influence, and responsibility of Historically Black Protestant Churches in shaping our nation’s moral and democratic future.

This thought-provoking panel will explore how Black churches have served as pillars of faith, freedom, justice, and community throughout American history, while examining their role in strengthening religious liberty, protecting democracy, and building bridges across difference in the years ahead.

Featuring distinguished faith leaders Rev. Devon Jerome Crawford, Rev. Dr. Gabby Cudjoe Wilkes, and Rev. Frederick Davie, with moderation by Rev. Dr. John H. Vaughn, this gathering invites people of all faith traditions and backgrounds into a meaningful dialogue about faith, civic engagement, and the future of our shared public life.

What does it mean to see yourself in the story of God?

Today, we were honored to witness the unveiling of a powerful oil portrait depicting Jesus Christ with African features, inspired by the vision of Dean Lawrence Edward Carter, Sr., commissioned by Andrew and Karen Galt, and beautifully brought to life by artist Connie Lynn Reilly of Buford, Georgia.

More than a painting, this work invites reflection on belonging, identity, and the truth that Christ’s love transcends every boundary of race, culture, and geography. It serves as a reminder that people around the world have sought to see themselves in the biblical story while holding fast to the same Savior who welcomes all.

As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reminded us:

“The significance of Jesus lay, not in His color, but in His unique God-consciousness and His willingness to surrender His will to God’s will.”

Whether viewed through the lens of art, culture, history, or faith, the message remains the same: Christ’s arms are open to all.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son…” (John 3:16)

On this Juneteenth, we remember.

We remember the resilience of a people who refused to let oppression have the final word.

We remember the generations who prayed, marched, organized, sacrificed, and believed in a freedom they could not yet see.

We remember that freedom delayed is still a wound, and justice deferred is still a burden.

As America’s Freedom Church, we celebrate not only a moment in history, but a continuing call to build a nation where liberty, dignity, and opportunity belong to all God’s children.

Today we honor our ancestors.
We celebrate Black excellence.
We recommit ourselves to the sacred work of justice.
