Thousands of people in Washington state are still recovering from last December's record-breaking flooding, which destroyed or damaged more than 440 homes and led to the evacuation of over 100,000 residents, including the entire population of Burlington and most of Mount Vernon.
As the waters receded, local United Methodists provided immediate relief through food and gas cards, UMCOR cleaning kits, Early Response Team (ERT) volunteer muck-outs and assessments, and more, with support from an UMCOR solidarity grant.
Now, as these United Methodists continue to walk alongside their recovering neighbors, a new UMCOR grant to The Pacific Northwest Conference of The United Methodist Church will fund long‑term recovery staff, deliver UMCOR Disaster Case Management training, and address ongoing unmet needs across the 16 affected counties and tribal nations.
