The Church of St Alphonsus, also known as Novena Church, is a devotional Church dedicated to the devotion of our Mother of Perpetual Help. It came to be popularly known as Novena Church because of its we

ekly Saturday devotions to Our Mother of Perpetual Help. The Novena Church is run by a male religious missionary congregation called the Redemptorists. The Redemptorists, together with the laity, are committed to building a community of disciples that leads others to an experience of plentiful redemption with Christ the Redeemer. They do this in 3 ways:

i) Evangelisation: Sharing of faith
ii) Authentic worship: Experiencing God's grace and conversion of hearts
iii) Service to the poor and abandoned. The Church welcomes people from all over to pray and to find peace, to receive healing and hope, and to experience life and love, making the Shrine a center of hospitality and mercy - to provide assistance to all.

The Beatitudes mark the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel, according to Matthew. They express Jesus’ radical values, which were and are in contrast to worldly values. By aligning ourselves with the Beatitudes, we strive to become more Christ-like, as they embody the values of the Kingdom.

Living a Christ-like life poses a challenge for Christians, and the Beatitudes present this challenge. According to Pope Francis, the Beatitudes serve as the “identity card” of Christians, outlining the likeness of Jesus and His way of living.

We assess our inner life based on the Beatitudes and our outer life of charity based on the parable of the Final Judgement (Mt 25).

How successful am I in living the Beatitudes?

Redemptorist Heritage Centre Update - 28 May 2026

On 28 May 2026, the Redemptorist Heritage Centre (RHC) was delighted to welcome 32 Secondary 3 students and their teachers from Saint Gabriel's Secondary School for an enriching learning journey.

To make the visit more engaging, RHC Supervisor Mrs. Celina Fernandez and the docent team prepared a special quiz on the Redemptorist Heritage Centre, which was distributed to all the students. Fr. Peter Wee, CSsR, warmly welcomed the group with an opening prayer and gave a brief introduction to the Church of Saint Alphonsus (Novena Church).

The students were then divided into smaller groups and guided through the Heritage Centre by our dedicated docents—Jack, Richard, Jose, and Philip. Through their presentations and stories, the students gained a deeper understanding of the history, mission, and heritage of the Redemptorist.

After the tour, our Spiritual Director, Fr. Antony Prabhu, CSsR, shared about the Popular Novena Devotion held every Saturday and invited the students and their families to visit Novena Church. Six students who answered the quiz questions correctly received special gifts as a token of appreciation.

The visit concluded with a thank-you speech by Mr. Sebastian Goh, who also presented Fr. Antony Prabhu with a token of appreciation on behalf of Saint Gabriel's Secondary School. Before leaving, the students spent a few moments in reflection, bringing a meaningful end to a memorable visit.

We thank Saint Gabriel's Secondary School for visiting the Redemptorist Heritage Centre and look forward to welcoming more schools and organisations in the future.

Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ — Corpus Christi

This feast celebrates the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, inviting believers to reflect on how God feeds both body and soul, and how Jesus gives himself as spiritual nourishment, uniting his people through one sacred meal.

The Eucharist heals our differences and prejudices. In the Eucharist, Christ enables us to suffer and to live with Him. In it, we are sanctified and reconciled in love. The grace of God penetrates and restores human life to a high dignity. It helps us to maintain and grow the life of the Spirit within us. The words and actions of Jesus at the institution of the Eucharist are the basis of this celebration.

So much of what we receive at the altar we may take for granted. But today reminds us of the astounding gift of God giving himself to us through his Son — continuing to give himself to us, week after week, century after century.

He walks with us through everything — our hardships and heartaches, our joys and our hopes. He knows our pains. He has felt our wounds. He is close.

The Eucharist is the silence of God, the weakness of God - Carlo Caretto

In every burden we carry and every grace we receive, Our Mother of Perpetual Help walks with us. Even in frailty, she teaches us to trust the faithful love of her Son.

Dear Mother, we tried to conceive and went to your shrine to plead for your intercession. Miraculously, our daughter was conceived. However, in my sixth month, she was without heartbeat suddenly. In my labor, there was no joy, only sadness. But we know your saving grace because you saved me from death when I experienced severe haemorrhage during labour. We miss her dearly everyday till this day. She would have been two years old this month. We plea once again for your intercession, to conceive and give birth to a healthy baby. Your faithful daughter.

Dearest Mother, I genuinely need help with my relationship, I messed up so much with the girl I love and I still really love her and need her in my life. Please grant me guidance on what I should do and please lead me so that I may become a better person, a better human being.

Dearest Mother Mary of Perpetual Help, I’ve been talking to this person for a few months now and I’m in an uncertainty of where this is heading to. I have always been looking forward to have a partner, to have a family of my own, but I’m really afraid to hope again, I’m afraid of facing another disappointment and heartbreak. Dearest Mother Mary, please give me the strength to discern well, relieve me of insecurities, give me peace of mind and help me to believe that there is always hope. Your dearest daughter.

Jesus presents the most important commandment: love God and love your neighbour. In the Old Testament, God demanded complete love and loyalty from the People of Israel, and let’s recall the question of Jesus to Peter, “Do you love me more than these?” (Jn 21:15).

The love for God is rooted in first experiencing His love for us (cf. 1 Jn 4:10). Therefore, first, we experience the love of God through our actual life experiences, then we respond to it, although inadequately, especially through our love for our neighbour.

The philosopher Martin Buber offers great insight, saying, “You love yourself despite your faults, and so, love your neighbour despite theirs.” The question we need to ask ourselves is, where do I stand in my love for God and for my neighbour?

IN GRATITUDE AND JOY FOR THE REDEMPTORIST JUBILARIANS

Amidst the discussions in the Chapter meeting, the Redemptorists from the Vice Province of Malaysia & Singapore took some time off to give thanks and celebrate the milestone sacerdotal anniversary of the various confrere.

Marking his 60th Sacerdotal Anniversary is Fr. Paul Pang, C.Ss.R. and the first Singaporean Redemptorist.

Marking their 40th Sacerdotal Anniversary are Fathers Peter Wee, C.Ss.R., Clement Lee, C.Ss.R., Patrick Massang, C.Ss.R. and Fr. Joseph Apisit Kritsaralam,C.Ss.R from the Province of Thailand, who is with us for the Assembly and Chapter.

We thank God for the gifts of these priests. May God continue to bless them with wisdom, strength, joy, and perseverance in their vocation. Renew in them the grace of their calling, and may their lives continue to reflect His love and mercy. May they also continue to walk faithfully in the charism of St. Alphonsus, bringing God’s plentiful redemption to all they serve. 🙏🏽

Mary, Our Mother of Perpetual Help, intercede for them always. 🌹

We also ask the community to keep Fr. Vincent Low, who is also celebrating his 40th anniversary, in your prayers as he remains hospitalized. May the Lord grant him healing, comfort, renewed strength, and a swift recovery.
