ALTAR SERVERS’ MINISTRY HERE AT NOVENA CHURCH:
One of the ways a youth can actively participate in the life of the Church is by being an Altar Server. Serving at the Altar is a great privilege and honour. It is also an important duty of faith to assist the priest at the Sanctuary. Novena Church Altar Servers are trained to assist at Masses, Saturday Novena Devotions and other Liturgical Celebratio
ns as needed. “I come not to be served, but to serve”
WHO MAY SERVE:
A Server can be any person who shows signs of adequate maturity to take on roles of responsibility and is motivated to serve on his own and not by parental pressures. A reluctant or disinterested Server is a distraction during the Mass and will have a negative effect on congregation’s faith. WHAT WE ALTAR SERVERS DO:
As Altar Servers, we play an integral part of the Mass. We have an important role in the celebration of the Mass. Our first priority is that of prayer. A good prayer life will positively influence our Ministry and actions of service. Our role is to ensure that public worship is well facilitated and flows smoothly. It also entails, knowing and actively participating in the hymns, prayers and responses of the people. When people see you participating actively in the Mass with them, they will feel more inspired to join in themselves. In short, our role is to assist the people in praying well. OUR OBJECTIVES:
1) To assist the priest at all Liturgical Celebrations/Devotions.
2) To attend Server Days, Meetings, Trainings, Spiritual Talks,
Formation Sessions, Workshops and any other events organised by the Ministry.
3) To participate in the Annual Retreat organised by the Ministry.
