Masjid Sallim Mattar or Sallim Mattar Mosque, which is located along Mattar Road serves the Muslim community in the Macpherson Estate, Aljunied, Joo Seng Road, Geylang Bahru, Muslim working around the Macpherson industrial estate as well as other residents living nearby. The mosque which is sited adjacent to Darul Ihsan Orphanage today was resulted from the resettlement of the Malayas of Kallang V
illage in Mattar Road and Sallim Road when the government decided to build Kallang Airport in 1930s. With the efforts of the villagers, the mosque was officially founded in 1935. Their good efforts have benefited many and since then the mosque has been used as a place of worship for Muslims especially those in the vicinity of the mosque. Haji Ahmad bin Haji Mohd Salleh was first appointed by the villagers as the custodian of this mosque, together with five others to maintain and administer the mosque. Among those appointed was Encik Mahmood Ahmad, the father to Haji Moh Said, current chairman of Masjid Sallim Mattar. With the increasing of congregants visited the mosque especially during Friday prayer, thus it was essential that the mosque be extended to accommodate people in the vicinity and to provide religios class for children. Located in Singapore central region, it had undergone repair and renovation several times in the 60s and 80s. In year 1990, Masjid Sallim Mattar got another approval for upgrading, which completed in year 2001. With its new modern touch providing a suitable environment, Masjid Sallim Mattar was inaugurated on 8 March 2003. Apart from providing a place for prayers, other activities at the mosque include Socila Development Programmes, religious classes, youth development, lecture events and conducting home visits to the elderly and families in need in the area.
