一位僧人问：“什么是佛法大意？”
慧忠国师说：“文殊堂里一万尊菩萨。”
僧人说：“我不明白。”
国师说：“大悲千手眼。”

A monk asked, “What is the essence of Buddha Dharma?”
National Teacher Hui Zhong said,
“In the Hall of Manjusri, there are 10 thousand Bodhisattvas.”
The monk said, “I don’t understand.”
National Teacher said,
“Great compassion with a thousand hands and eyes.”

要点在于狗为什么没有佛性？
或参万法归一，
要点在于一归何处？
或参念佛，
要点在于念佛的是谁？

When working on “Wu” (“Mu”),
the essence is “Why does a dog have no Buddha nature?”
When working on “Ten thousand Dharmas return to the One”,
the essence is “Where does the One return to?”
When reciting Buddha’s name,
the essence is “Who is reciting Buddha’s name?”
