“I started coming to Beats and Books in 2017, when I was 7 years old. My cousin invited me to come and play with them there.
My name is Ezintle Tshume, and I am 16 years old in Grade 10, attending Global Leadership Academy.
When I was 8 years old, I started playing the piano. I played the piano until I was 15 years old. That same year, I decided to play the djembe. I like playing both instruments because they’ve helped me with my mental health.
The three values that Beats and Books taught me are Christ-Centeredness, Contribution, and Consistency. Christ-Centeredness always reminds me that Jesus Christ is the foundation of my life. These values also build motivation and guidance.
Contribution helps me to grow, to be kind, and to have good relationships with people. Consistency helps me match my daily actions with my beliefs, regardless of my mood and circumstances as a Christian.
I would recommend Beats and Books to other students because it is such a wonderful place where you learn more about the Word of God and receive help with your homework.
Thank you.”

As Ian returns home after five weeks in the United States, we want to take a moment to honour and thank him for the incredible sacrifice he made on behalf of Beats and Books.

Being away from home for such a long period is never easy, especially when it means leaving behind your wife and loved ones. Thank you, Ian McDougall, for willingly stepping away from the comfort of home and from Judy for these past weeks in order to champion the vision and mission of Beats and Books.

Throughout his trip, Ian faithfully represented Beats and Books by reconnecting with long-time supporters, sharing stories of impact, building new relationships, and opening doors for future partnerships that will help strengthen the work being done in Jeffreys Bay through spiritual formation, literacy, music and numeracy.

Your willingness to serve behind the scenes, travel extensively, and advocate passionately for the children and youth of our community does not go unnoticed.

To Judy — thank you for sharing Ian with us and for the support and sacrifice you have made during this season as well.

We are deeply grateful.

Welcome home, Ian. 🇿🇦✈️🇺🇸

Watch this space! 🙌🏻

With the introduction of Chromebooks generously donated by the Global Leadership Academy, we are enhancing our programming through an integration of literacy and computer literacy.

The Chromebooks are part of a SmartBox system, which is a portable, self-contained digital learning setup. It combines a local server and Wi-Fi network into one unit, allowing learners to access educational content, coding tools, and digital resources even in areas with limited or no internet connectivity. This makes it especially powerful for outreach work in rural and farming communities.

Through this innovation, we will be able to extend literacy development and spiritual formation programmes across the Kouga Municipality, bringing learning directly to communities beyond our centre.

"When I arrived at Beats and Books, my first interest was to play guitar. I started playing guitar in 2020 and continued until 2024. I then stopped because we did not have a guitar teacher to continue playing.

I resumed lessons in 2026 because we were blessed with Mr Andrew, our new guitar teacher. So far, I have had six guitar teachers over the years.

Beats and Books taught me a lot of things, like being committed and I’ve also been helped me to rely more on God than people.

The three values that Beats and Books taught me are consideration, contribution, and Christ-centeredness.

I would recommend Beats and Books to other learners because Beats and Books helps you build a strong relationship with God and to put your faith in Him.

My name is Sibulele Tabata. I have been at Beats and Books since 2020. I was only in Grade 4 then. Currently, I am in Grade 9 at the Global Leadership Academy."

What looked like a jungle is slowly getting beautified into a curated garden. Today we want to thank Tata Sandile for being an unsung hero behind the scenes turning the Beats and Books surroundings into a better place.

You know those places where you walk in for “a little while” and somehow end up staying the whole afternoon? That’s what Beats & Books feels like.

One conversation leads to another, ideas start flowing across the table, laptops stay open a little longer, and suddenly the room feels less like a workspace and more like community.

There’s always someone sharing a thought, a song, a scripture, or a dream they’ve been carrying for a while. Between the laughter, deep conversations, and quiet moments of focus, you realise people aren’t only gathering here to work or read — they’re gathering to grow. 🤍

Luniko's beautiful smile reflects her kindhearted nature that we all get to enjoy at Beats and Books. Here's a short testimony on how we've helped her to grow since joining us in 2024.
