We are so honoured to be part of Lizette’s story, who joined our series of workshops about understanding yourself and others better.
39-year-old wife, mother and psychology honours student always knew from a young age that she wanted to become a psychologist because of her father. She shares that he was a very difficult and complex person, and most of the time she did not understand him, and always wanted to study psychology to understand him better and help him become a happier version of himself.
We strive to continue to serve others through God’s grace by connecting ordinary people to extraordinary stories. Here is Lizette’s extraordinary story:
"After completing grade 12, I went to university to pursue my dream, but before I could complete my degree, my dad passed away. This turned my world upside down and left me doubting whether I still wanted to become a Psychologist because my main reason was no longer there, so I decided to quit my studies.
The years that followed were not easy, as much as I wanted to move away from psychology; the burning inside grew stronger. 12 years later, by the grace of God, I decided to complete my degree, and I'm currently doing my Honours. When I decided to complete my degree I asked God to show me the direction to go, I was always conflicted because I know in the field of psychology you can not speak about God or your own faith to your clients and this was something that laid heavily on my heart, because I want to speak of God and share all He has done for me.
I am a firm believer that God is intentional in answering because the first workshop I attended with Naomi, from Sowing Seeds of Joy, I got my answers. Now I know it is possible to glorify God through counselling and helping people with faith as the foundation, without shoving your beliefs and faith onto people, but doing it with so much grace.
Thank you, Naomi, for your congruence and grace. May God enlarge your territory and take you from strength to strength.”
