Living Waters AME Church in Strand was established as a congregation on 28th September 2003 under the Episcopal leadership of Bishop Gregorry G. McKinley Ingram. Rev Anthony J Jacobs was then the presiding elder of the Paarl District in which this congregation was organized. Since 1971, AME members from Graaf Reinet had been settling in the Strand area. Some joined up with Wright Chapel in Firgrove under the leadership of Rev. Edward Louw, while others went and became part of Easter and Cecilia Gordon AMEC in Macassar, under the late Rev. Henry A. Joubert. These groups were later organized as a class by Rev. Vernon E. Bailie. With numbers dwindling due to movements and death, they became attached to Faith AMEC in Scottsdene and H.B Senatle Fellowship in Macassar. It was only on the 28th September 2003, at Strand Senior Secondary School that the dream of establishment came true, sadly 7 years later, this congregation officially with only 29 members. It has been under the care of at least 8 pastors, of which the current is Rev. Sekoboto Joseph Tau, who was recently assigned by Bishop Wilfred J Messiah - to grow, re-establish a solid membership base, find land and build a church. We are now proudly a "small church doing the right things the right way" - God is still on our side and we are making progress!
